Pocket 4K - anybody tested this App?

PostWed Nov 14, 2018 9:40 am

Hi there,

Has anybody tested this app with the Pocket 4K yet? Does it work (well)?

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bluetoo ... 1376947780

Are there any alternative apps?

Cheers

Yes, I am using that App and it works great. The latest update brought focus pulling with MFT lenses and that works like a charm.

Here is the thread where the developer of Bluetooth+ himself is posting:

Thanks.

So far I only have EF-Lenses; not sure if I should invest in MFT-Glass.

Janis, you could go with MFT glass or use your EF lenses that are compatible with the Metabones EF-MFT Smart Adapter or SpeedBooster Ultra or XL.

If you want to use all,of the new AF and touch screen features, you are going to need native MFT auto lenses. BM’s inclusion of Oly MFT Pro lenses in the test kits, with a request to use these lenses was not based on a whim, but the fact only native MFT auto lenses are currently completely compatible with the cameras functions and auto features.

For me, it boils down to using non native lenses for full manual control, or native MFT lenses to use the auto focus and auto iris features, or use the new Mobil IOS apps for lens control. ;)

From my u derstsnding, it already does, as far as the control options it offers, since the Ursa Mini 4.6/Pro and the new Pocket 4K uses the same OS (not BRaw 6.0 firmware specifically, but the underlying menu system OS 4.X). ;)

So what are the big differences between Bluetooth+ and Blackmagic Design camera control app?
I see there is a dedicated slate option: this is the main reason i want to use the app. But metadata can also be changed using the BMD app. Is it that much better on the Bluetooth+ app?

With respect, why dont you just download the app and compare? Its only $5 - a very small price to pay to decide which one works best for you. I am sure the developer will also be happy too; app development is a big time / cost investment upfront in the hope people will buy your app down the line :D

Any chance someone out there with an f/1.2 lens could test something in the Bluetooth+ app?

The iris control doesn't seem to stay on f/1.2, but jumps back to f/1.4 every time I try to drag the slider all the way to the left. The camera itself displays f/1.2 though. It doesn't seem to happen with other lenses, but I don't have any other f/1.2 lenses to test with. This is an Oly 17/1.2 that I'm using.

There's one screen of the app that is a slider on a vertical line (no markings). You can drag the slider up and down to rack from infinity to close focus. Doesn't work with non-MFT lenses though. My EF lenses don't respond.
