Erase unwanted Footage From Media vs Reformat?

Here's another question I had that doesn't appear to be in the BMPCC manual.

When recording on whatever media you have chosen, can you erase unwanted takes or test footage without reformatting entire card or disk?

That’s the way it has been with all BMD cameras. The benefit of reformatted cards may be that they are better able to manage the high recording data rates that can be required with lossless raw. It can take a little longer for the data controller on the cards to record in between existing recordings which could happen if clips here and there could be erased in camera. But the major reason is that it’s a safety feature that prevents accidental deletion of the wrong clip which could be disastrous. The camera operator has a lot going on and mistakes can happen when you may be under the pressure cooker of a shoot.
