10 - 12 mm solution for BMPCC 4k

PostSun Jan 13, 2019 10:56 am

Hi guys,

i'm stucked into this : i want to buy a new wide angle lens (no fish eye), something between 10-12 mm.
The problem is, since i'm going to buy the viltrox focal reducer to use with my NIKON lenses (i have a nikon 20mm and a 50mm), i'd prefer to buy a NIkon mount lens, that's why I'm not considering the SAMYANG 12MM 2.0 NCS, because they don't make it for Nikon.

The only other possibility i see is the SAMYANG 10 mm 2.8, that is Nikon mount, i would be able to use it both with the viltrox and without the focal reducer (with a simple lens adapter).

Do you have any suggestion? Am I missing some lenses in my research?

Thanks.

Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Gary, I’d be tempted to just go light and native mFT with the SLR Magic 10mm T2.1 Cine which is currently on sale for only $479 USD at B&H Photo:

If you had money burning a hole in your pocket, the Tokina 11-20mm T2.9 is available in several mounts including F to suit either mounting with an adapter or native mFT. It’s a good range for a wide view at DCI 4K/UHD or a normal to portrait view at HD windowed.

I own the SLR Magic 10mm T2.1 Cine and it works well. Minimum focus distance at 7 inches is quite good.

Another option, if you want to get even wider, is the MFT mount Laowa 7.5mm
There's an f2 photo version out now that I own, and it works well:

Wish I had waited a bit longer though as they announced a clickless aperture T2.1 "cine" version a couple months ago (though it doesn't appear to be shipping yet):

Here's a full list of all m4/3 lenses: https://www.four-thirds.org/en/microft/lense.html

i am considering m4/3 lenses too, but since i'm buying the focal reducer m4/3 to Nikon, if i buy a nikon lens i can use it with a simple adapter or with the focal reducer, do you understand me? It's like having 2 lenses

Tokina made a 17mm f/3.5 lens with a Nikon Mount, which will give you a 12mm focal length equivalent with the speed booster.

That's a nice old lens, but pretty low contrast compared to today's standards.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Yes, but it has its uses, but not an everyday lens. If you want a more modern look, than the Zeiss ZF 18mm is another choice.

I have the SLR Magic. Excellent lens. What could be easier than not needing an adapter?

Voigtlander 10.5mm is an excellent choice. Native mount, no distortion. Beautiful image. I'll leave this hear again..

How could it give me a shorter focal lenght than the original 35mm-compared lenght?

You get the 12mm equivalent filed of view when you use it withnthe Speed Booster MFT/Nik (0.71), like the Metabones Ultra, and 17 or 18mm (depending on which kens) when used with a straight MFT/Nik adapter.

That said, I agree, the SLR Magic 10mm is an excellent lens, if you just want the 10mm WA.
