I'd recommend getting a cage. I have the Smallrig full cage, and it's great.

I know I have a cage but considering to use with:

It's much lighter for run and gun.

Just need to know if the bmpcc4k can support it.

Thanks

The issue with the top handle of course isn’t mounting a top handle, it’s using the top handle to support the weight of the camera and everything attached to it. So using that cold shoe mounted arm is not going to void anything, but the unbalanced weight of everything attached to it may deform the camera body due to the way the weight will put on the mounting point. I’d put something like a modest microphone on the top mounting point as that weight will be balanced, not off-axis. And with that attachment, you know someone is going to pickup the camera by it so it’s a top handle with another name. The cages can be fairly inexpensive and worth the investment. Understand the cage is something you wish to avoid, but use that arm at your own risk.

In the second video, with the support attached to the bottom mounting point, you’ll notice all handling of the camera is by the side grip.

Rick Lang Thanks for your insight. I also thought of the temptation of picking the camera up by the top but if dosen't void the warrantr i can be more than carefull.

My tilta cage is great but with the bmp4k its not for run and gun. The pocket rig offers a degree of stabilization and the evf holder seems to be very light. Together imop could be perfect. Ill continue researching.

Thank you

Australian Image wrote:Seriously, don't. The top of the BMPCC4K is for locating the camera in a rig, not for mounting accessories. At most, I'd would mount a small microphone on that spot, but nothing more. Just get a half-rig if you have to use such things.

Thanks ill consider it.

Hey Riccardo,

Have you tried using a camera strap for run & gun? I use a Peak Design "slide" strap with the anchors attached to directly to a cage (those strap hooks on the camera look plastic and weak to me!). The anchors let you easily remove the strap when not needed. I use the strap over one shoulder, tuck my arms, and pull the strap tight when filming. When paired with a stabilized lens, it gives rock solid footage. (pan and tilt with your waist :D )

I also keep a long manfrotto quick release plate (501LONG) mounted to the bottom of the cage, which keeps the lens from smacking my leg when the camera is hanging down on my side from the strap. The long plate also acts as a handle that I rest my plam on when pulling focus.
