Splitting the mini XLR Connection on BMPC4K

PostThu Apr 18, 2019 7:43 pm

Hey all,

I have a Woodencamera A-Box that had a 3.5mm jack. The A-Box basically is a splitter. It has 2 female XLR connections that then goes to a single output, splitting the two XLR connections into left and right channel on the single output. I have taken that 3.5mm jack off and soldered on a mini XLR connector on to it. Now, when I plug in the A-Box and plug a mic into it, the camera appears to take that source, which should only be outputting to the left channel and applying it to both channels to make a stereo source. So does the mini XLR connection on the camera not have a discreet left and right channel? When I plug the mic into the other XLR input on the A-Box, I get nothing in the camera. Has anyone tried to split the mini XLR connection on this camera?

Although both the xlr and 3.5mm Jack have 3 pins, the xlr is balanced mono only and the mini jack is stereo unbalanced.

Do you know, is that because of the firmware or is that a hardware limitation?

3 pin XLR is always mono.

pin 1 ... Chassis ground (cable shield)
pin 2 ... Positive polarity terminal for balanced audio circuits (aka "hot")
pin 3 ... Negative polarity terminal for balanced circuits (aka "cold")
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

a small note, the mini xlr in pcc4k is wired differently than normal size 3-pin xlr... while still mono balanced.

The BM mini XLR Cable wiring (male mini XLR, female XLR) Ground is the same while blue and white change places. you can see this by comparing the camera socket to normal size socket also.
