Power Bmpcc 4k via usb cable

PostSun May 05, 2019 12:56 pm

is there a way to power the bmpcc 4k with a power bank that only has USB output?

I know i would need a Usb input cable with a Weipu sf610-s2 output, but it seems like no one sells this kind of cable.

Thanks

Mark, you can power the camera via USB-C in:

Scroll down to flexible power options

Are you sure? You can charge the battery via usb-c with a usb-charger, but I don't think it will power the camera. Or can it?

Hm, you are right. Although when I connected the camera to my laptop neither via USB-C (Thunderbolt cable) nor USB3 to USB-C did the camera start to charge. So this might only work with a power bank.

You do need high power for the charge, as well. A computer's USB-3 port won't work. They really ought to make that explicit in the manual.

Yeah, seems my Lenovo Thinkpad P51 does not support power delivery, so it would be restricted to 5V/15W at USB3.1 and whatever it delivers over TB3 (didn't finde any specs).

TBH, for me USB-C is quite a mess.

Just a little follow up. Yesterday I received my Anker power pack which has USB-C and power delivery. While it would charge the battery in the switched off camera, the camera can't neither be started with the power pack as the only power source, nor does it charge the internal battery when the camera is switched on.

So USB-C is just an option to charge the battery when you don't have a LP-E charger or the BMD power supply.

I don't think it is possible to create a USB-C to Weipu cable easily, because power delivery is a mode where the USB-C devices are using a protocol to make up the voltage and power needed.

Better just buy a Sony BPU style battery with 14.4V and D-tap out.

Ah, thanks for the reminder, Ray. Should have sticked to RTFM :D
