Just bought BMPCC4K. Have a Q!

PostWed May 15, 2019 1:59 pm

Hi,

Just ordered a BMPCC4K and it’s coming on Friday.

Just have a question...

I’m on Windows so was going to use Raw as Prores doesn’t work that well on windows so I’m told. Is that trie or could I record in Prores and then edit it on windows and export in some other format? Can I record Raw lossless in 4K 60? If so what memory card type is the best as been told it’s only 4k30 if I want to record to my external ssd?

What you were told is incorrect. Prores runs fine on Windows and can be exported to equivalent formats.

There is no BMPCC 4K format known as "raw lossless 4K 60fps", though there are choices of various compression ratios, for 4k 60fps. For suitable cards and drives, refer to the document on the support page.

Thanks for that.

I have a Samsung T5 500gb so looks like at most, I could do 4K 60 Prores as for Blackmagic Raw it says it has to be the 2tb version, which I presume is because it has a faster write speed.

Wonder if I could knock up a nvme m.2 portable as I have a 1tb Samsung one?

Your 500GB T5 will work fine shooting 4K 60p raw, I’ve been using the same drive for the last few months with all the raw formats on the Pocket4K, never a problem...

Yes, I literally just stopped a 13 minutes recording, 4K 60p 3:1 on a T5 500GB.

That’s good then. So I’ll be able to shoot blackmagic Raw 4K 60 3:1 compression then recording to my t5 500gb. Woo hoo

I have shot my BMPCC4 successfully with no dropped frames using:

Blackmagic Raw 3:1
4K 60fps
Samsung T5 1TB SSD
And using a good short USB C 3.1 Gen 2 cable, this cable. I think having the proper USB C cable makes a difference. I use this cable:

FYI, Also worth noting, I always have an external inexpensive 12V power supply plugged in. I am using either one of these, and both work very well and support the below cable as well.:

The first one above has run for 2 hours straight and only used 1/3 the units charge. The smaller Amp unit above runs the camera, a powered lens, the T5 for a little over 2 hours.

The power cable that I use out of the box is compatible with the above power units and the BMPCC4K Weipu connector:

Hi Mike, I have been looking at those cheap battery packs for a while, glad to hear they work well.
Two quick question, do you know roughly how long it takes to charge them from 0 to 100?
Are you mounting it directly onto the camera, to a cage or rods? Can you share what kind of mount are you using?
Thanks!
