Will the famous 24-70mm f2.8 L V1 work with the BMCC?

The camera is made for working with Canon lens, but not with the most versatile L zoom-lens :o

I'm confused. Is this a question or a statement?

I had a V1 and as it says on the compatibility page the aperture control doesn't work - you can use it if you carry another camera around to change the aperture!

Honestly, though, I didn't find 24-70 to be extremely versatile on the BMCC due to the crop. For my taste, my 10-22 was actually more versatile. 24-70 is an awesome general purpose range on full frame, but it's more of a tele-zoom on the BMCC. For the 4k, though, I think the 24-70 will again be an awesome range.

Can we have an OFFICIAL answer from Blackmagic about "which canon lens works or not with the BMCC?"

Thanks!!!

I have no experience of Canon EF lenses but from my research this will be a good lens for the 4K.
Apparently it is a favorite of still photographers and EOS video shooters.
I intend to get one to start with.

Canon 24-70 will not work on the 4k. Edit: v1.

How do you know the Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L II won't work on the 4K?
It works on the BMCC:
http://resources.abelcine.com/2012/08/20/lenses-and-accessories-for-the-blackmagic-cinema-camera/

Also:

&

&

&

There will only be an 0.8 crop factor on the BM4K.
It should work better than on the BMCC.

Aparently, this is one on the most popular EF lenses there is.
Why wouldn't this lense work on the 4K which has an EF mount?
Do you know something I don't?

I will buy BMPC4K , but i will use other lenses. I will do not buy canon lenses.

It's best to buy contol iris lenses in the lens itself. For example: zeiss ZF. (It's just my opinion)

My spectacular 28-70 Nikkor (the old, expensive, good one) works perfectly on the BCC MFT using the Metabones Speed Booster. It becomes a 44-111mm f/2 (in DSLR-speak) with improved MTF quality. Focus does not hold, however, making this zoom a "variable prime." Tack sharp. Now, to get the wireless follow focus for this thing. Choices between $3,500 and over $10,000 from which to choose, but my Steadicam days scream for Heden motors. We like torque.

I hear you. I've heard such good things about this lense and am used to ENG zooms which are parfocal with auto Iris(and manual override).

I'm impressed!

I saw your post in the EF lens compatibility thread and realised you have first hand experience of problems with the 24-70 Mk1.

It's very confusing because many people have problems and for others it works fine.

24-70mm f2.8 L MK II works just fine on my BMCC EF here. Iris is controlled by BMCC as it should. Infinity focus also works fine.

Thanks very much.
That's good to know.
What do you think of the lens on the BMCC?

Pablito, I only did a couple of landscape tests so far with my MK II, and lens looks absolutely fine. It even holds focus on zoom out, very convincingly - which I did not expect!

BTW I purchased it for use on my Canon 6D DSLR originally, and after the microfocus adjustment it absolutely is the sharpest lens I own. It is slightly sharper than the venerable Canon 70-200 f2.8 L MK II that I own for some time now. (70-200 also works fine on BMCC.)

Thanks again.
I plan on also getting the 24-70 Mk 2 as I hear great things about it.
Both are able to hold focus throughout the full zoom range(and hold F2,8) and are good quality glass.
Have you used lanc with these lenses?

No, actually I haven't investigated remote capabilities yet.
