Its been discussed.

No official statement.

General consensus: Not going to happen.

( would be great if it could. )

The architecture of the camera has to be made to do that from the start. No indication ever from BM that it is was a design consideration.

Realistically the camera is too cheap for this kind of upgrade. From a business perspective, BM would be killing their own profit from stopping you just buying a new camera of theirs with 4K.

Buy the 4K camera when it comes out and then you can have two cameras to shoot with.

Why on earth should they?

Want a new, better camera? Buy one.

The BMCC and BMPC4K are really different cameras. Both have their place.

The one is not an upgraded version of the other.

Even if it was the cost of shipping that camera back, the work involved and the parts would make it un-economical.

They are $3k and $4k. Do you really think an upgrade will come in at $1k?

Don't see Nikon, Canon or Sony offering an upgrade on any of their cameras...

As I stated above, not going to happen.

But the unique thing about the BMCC and BM4K is that they are exactly identical in size. ( at least from the outside from what we know. ) That would make it a lot easier to just swap out the internals. A unique situation that Canon and Nikon probably cant do for that partial reason.

Just buy a new camera and can re-use your rigs etc. Seriously with the price so cheap for what it does, I think its not practical or profitable for BM to mess around with this idea.

For RED Epic Dragon costing 10x and the upgrade to their next sensor costing 3x cost of the BMCC alone that's a price point where an upgrade route makes business sense.

That they're the same size is irrelevant. For all we know they're using surface mounting techniques to build these cameras economically, and even if it WERE the case, how much would you really be saving by reusing only the chassis?
