Gopro videos will not play or show a preview.

PostTue Mar 26, 2024 2:51 am

Hello, Davinci was working good until I updated to the newest version. When I add my go pro videos now it will not show a preview, and I am not able to playback any of my footage. Media works fine in microsoft video player. All the files are MP4. My system is an AMD Ryzen5 7600x 6-Core with an AMD Radeon RX 7900XT. 32GB of DDR5 6000. I am up to date on all the latest drivers for AMD and Windows, clean install on both. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Davinci and it still won't work. I can play the footage fine in GoPro Player as well. I'm still new to Davinci and still learning but I've edited, and cut multiple videos before with Davinci. I will upload an attachment showing what I see. Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Confirm you did not use 10 bit mode on the Gopro

Resolve Free on Windows does not support 10 bit h.265

I would encourage you to make a feature request for sensible error messages for unsupported codecs, this is basically a daily problem here

The feature exists, though a paid one.
But the software is only $300.
I emphasize "only". It is an extremely affordable app when compared to similar products.

It is a GoPro hero 8 soof I’m not mistaken it does not shoot in 10 bit. I’ve made around 10 videos with the same camera and posted them to YouTube all from davinci and it’s worked before. Using the same camera settings as the previous videos and also using the same storage device for the camera.

If that specific clips was previously working, then it's possible you accidentally updated to the Free version of 18.6.6.

Happens quite a lot. ;)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I’ve never had the paid version since I’m still learning.

Look into that clip with the free MediaInfo software.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Well, that should play in the free version. Something else is wrong. See the FAQs for posting a log and NFO.

Is this on already existing projects or it happens even on brand new ones created from scratch? If former have you been using proxies and/or caching in your projects? If yes trying deleting them and then recreating them, and try also creating brand new project.
