Select clip for color correction

PostSat May 11, 2024 12:29 am

I select a clip that I want to do a color correction on.
I click "Color".
The clip is now not selected and instead, a completely different clip in another track has been selected.

Why?

Because the software its confused. Flatten the timeline and it'll work.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Flatten the timeline?

I gave up using the Color tool and went into Fusion and added a color corrector to the specific clip.

I'm spending more time fighting with Resolve than getting work done these days. I've about had it.

Here are a couple of suggestions.
Resolve defaults to the top most track in the Color page. If you are on a single screen enable Tmeline in the Color page and you can click on the clip in the correct track to open it.

If you have two screens you can have Lightbox open and just click on the clip to bring it into focus.

The playhead stays where it is as you move across pages. This is an excellent design.

For Fusion and Color, the topmost clip will be the one you see first. Clip 'selection' isn't relevant.

An approach you might consider is doing all the editing first, and then moving to the other pages for effects and color work, rather than moving between pages constantly.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

You can check the unmix button on the bottom of the viewer on the color page. That way each clip shows side by side on the timeline and you don't get occlusions from overlapping media on other tracks.

Thank you to all of you. I'll try your suggestions when I have time later.

The reason why I"m needing to do this with an individual clip is probably kind of unique, and kind of hard to explain.

I have some animation that I'm drawing to specific music. The animation is cut into specific movements to fit specific sections of music. But music that is "fugal" in that over time it changes mostly in pitch. So I'm experimenting with the idea that movements might repeat but the character's color will change over time. And to do that I need to isolate it IN THE TIMELINE because I need to see the immediate result back in the edit page to see how the color looks as it all moves.

My frustration over this caused me to just use Fusion. I'm more comfortable with using it anyway. I click on the clip, take it into Fusion, and add the color corrector. And the color corrector node has pretty much all I need. ( I think). The color page will probably offer more nuance color changes though.

I know I could do it to clips outside of the timeline, but that would only add to my work. It just took me by surprise that the Color page works like it does. And it was very difficult to even see the timeline. And I couldn't see any way to enlarge it.
