"Make the Reserved Symbol Smaller" - Boss

PostWed Jun 17, 2020 5:47 pm

So. I had a simple timeline with some Text+ clips. It's the name of the company and the name of the product.

I've been told to add a ® to the end of the name of the company.

So I did. But it's too big.

I can't change the ® without changing the size of the whole text.

The text is centered, and changes in each timeline. So If I placed another Text+ with a ®, I would have to move it for every single video.

I've heard you can do just about anything with Expressions, but I'm just not sure how to dynamically get the width of the Title.

If I could get the width of the title, I could transform the ® based on the width of just the brand name so that the ® will line up consistently.

Is there any way to do this?

Like:
Code: Select all
= Text.Center.X + ((Text2.Width.X / 2) - {brandNameWidth})

You can change the size of individual characters in both the regular Text Title or the Text+ Title. With the regular Title, you just highlight the letter in the Rich Text box and then change the size with the slider.

With the Text+ Title, you switch to the Fusion page, right-click on the styled Text box and choose Character Level Styling. You can then box select the text character you want to change in the viewer, click on the modifiers tab and change the size.

On a side note, that the Registered mark. (Not 'reserved'.) It means the company's Trademark (TM) has been Registered and approved by the U.S. Trademark office.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hate to be a necromancer and resurrect and an old thread, but I've just been trying this solution in Version 18.6 and the modifier option doesn't seem to include the ability to alter the size. Here are the only options I get...

I was able to do this in an previous version but that was a few years ago. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, if the approach has changed for v18.6 or if it's a bug in the latest version?

I tried deleting the text, and the modifier, and re-adding it (and I've tried rebooting the project and the program) but nothing seems to give me the ability to change the text size of just a character.

Just wondering if someone might be able to shed any light on it (I'm still a novice BTW). Thx

May have found a solution. It works (sporadically) if you first go into fusion, select the textNode you want to edit, then, right click in the "mediaout1" window and select "Allow typing in preview" for that specific text node.

Then enter the text you want to have special styling for. I found sometimes it worked if I added it directly in the text box, and sometimes it worked when I added it in the mediaout screen, but it wasn't consistent and if it didn't work for one, I'd have to redo the steps until it worked.

Then select the text you want to edit in the text box as per the post above (don't select it in the mediaout box regardless of how you entered it as I found this never worked), and then the rest should work as normal.

Definitely seems to be a bug. Hope the above helps someone.

The only thing I couldn't find an easy way to do was to top align (superscript) the registered trademark. I would have expected there to be a nice easy way but superscript doesn't seem to be an option, so you have to mess with XYZ aspects. If anyone knows of a simpler way (I'm sure there must be one!) please share :)

Once you create the CLS modifier, you need to select the character or characters you want to change in the viewer by box selecting them, a green box will appear around them and the options will appear in the Inspector including Size.
