Error DaVinci Resolve failed to save as .

PostThu Mar 30, 2017 5:18 am

Been working through the night and suddenly when I try to "Save Project As" i get:

Error

DaVinci Resolve failed to save as .

It starts saving and the progress bar goes to 44% but then a short flash and I get the error message.

Unlike what I have seen in other posts there is no filename in the error message, just a dot "."

I am keeping the project open in the hope that someone has some ideas. I have exported the project but I do not know if the nights effort was saved in the export.

I have been getting random dongle missing errors for as long as I remember but they can be dismissed without any problem other than the annoyance.

The database was originally SQL but I have changed to disk database, can't remember when. I have been upgrading since 2013.

My Local Database is Disk database.

There are 8 DPDecoder.exe processes but only 7 PosgreSQL Server processes.

There are no torrent apps installed.

Hold down the Alt key, then click on the Resolve Help menu and select “Create Diagnostics Log On Desktop”.

Post the log file on a file sharing site and post a link to the file.

I've had that before and it was just stupidly my SSD hard drive full! (I did learn a lesson, though: do not Cache/Optimise on a small System SSD ;-))

Before anything bad happens to your project, have you tried exporting it as a DRP ?

Also, I would recommend you to have a tour in the program data folder where the Disk Database projects are stored (should be C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database\Resolve Projects on your system)

If you travel down to your User folder, within your user projects you'll find your project folder and probably a tmp version of it sitting just next to it. You might want to backup it (and the original of course) and eventually rename it to the original name if all your other attempts fail...

Hi,

The system was closed down and restarted without incident before I could get a capture log - however I am having 2-3 crashes a day in particular during renders. I am not sure if there is something related going on. I have also had crashes during saves which have made that project useless. In those cases I have had to revert to an earlier save.

Not sure you can help but I have a posted a crash log that occurred during a render just following restart after the cannot save error:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/tzuki7z6qfflo ... 4.zip?dl=0

Resolve offers such a good workflow with raw editing of Blackmagic footage that I feel it is worth living with the crashes. Maybe I just lack the raw power or my rig is not optimally configured...

Just to continue on the same computer -- now the timeline cursor became unresponsive -- Menu worked so it was not really a crash in the ordinary sense, I was able e.g. to select another timeline, however the display did not refresh - just a static still.

Diagnostic log from the session is here:

Hi, thank you for your response.

A few days earlier I had a "failed to save" error because the disk was full so I made a lot of space on the system disk by cleaning out old stuff. I did manage to back up and export the project while I was unable to save and when I restarted it imported the project without a hitch.

So in some ways I am better off because I have space on my system drive and I have a fresh backup. Now the problem is the frequent hangs and crashes and the uncertainty that instability brings.

HOWEVER, I still love the program and I intend to stick with it. Just hope that Blackmagic continues the great effort they have started.

Hi, crashed again out of the blue while editing.

The crash log below was captured while the unresponsive Resolve process was still running:

Hi Mack, i'm no expert reading the logs but I see GPU out of memory errors, missing dongle errors, 100's audio plugins disabled and Direct IO selected.

Can you tell us what res timeline and clips you are using, why direct I/O and confirm you have your UI monitors only on one GPU?

Hi Peter,

My timeline is 1080p 25. Most of my source is BMCC RAW 2400x1350 25fps and BMPCC 1080p 25 RAW. I have some 4k drone footage, lots of .tif and .psd and some avchd, dvcprohd and mp4 footage.

The project is a one hour documentary about eventing (equestrian sports).

UI monitors are only on one GPU.

I will try uninstalling the audio software on the computer.

I do not understand the direct I/O issue

I get a missing dongle error a few times every day. I just click ok and it goes away. If I am viewing footage, playback stops but can be resumed once I dismiss the dongle missing error. Seems harmless but is annoying. Haven't tried moving the dongle because I constantly use the front USB ports for reading cards and external disks.

I am using the 9 of the 10 SATA ports on the motherboard (see below) with a RAID 10 (4 disks), 2 x standard SATA HDDs and 2 x SATA SSDs, 1 x DVD-ROM. The system is running on an SSD. Some footage taken with a Nokia mobile phone goes offline when the playhead approached the end the file. When the playhead is reversed it comes online again. This applies only to the Nokia footage.

AHCI SATA
2x SATA 3.0 ports (6Gbps)
4x SATA 2.0 ports (3Gbps)

SCU SATA
4x SATA 2.0 ports (3Gbps)

I discovered that the disabled audio plug-ins were uninstalled years ago but they seem to persist in the preferences list (as not working). Today I tried but was unable to figure out how to make them go away. We are a few users of the computer each contributing to our common projects... and sometimes installing stuff...
