Chipmunk audio when syncing with wave form

PostFri Sep 22, 2017 10:22 pm

Hello everyone,

[edit: I started a new project and also renamed the wave files. now when I drag them into the new project they show 23.98 fps, but the sync still doesn't work when waveform syncing. for some reason the sound from the audio recorder is still playing faster, sounds like chipmunk sound, and its not perfectly sunk, the wave forms are close, but about 12-24 frames off...]

I've been given audio from a zoom H4N pro recorded at 4100k 24fps
and video from canon 1d's at 23.98
no time code
autosync based on waveform produced clips that have mismatched audio. one track is running faster than the other. in clip attributes I can't find a way to ignore the fps of the audio in the media tab
is there any hope for syncing this?

 ?

Re: 24fps audio for 23.98 video

I would pull it into an audio program and varispeed it -.1% and see if that syncs up. You should also sample rate convert the file to 48kHz, which is the standard used in post for decades.

Don't record sound and picture without timecode. It's fraught with problems for post for reasons like this.

some have said there should be no fps header on the audio at all, and that the zoom doesn't have fps settings
its true that in premier or media encoder no fps is listed for the wavs.
but resolve lists it at 24fps for some reason

I downloaded wave agent by sound devices, this too does not list any fps for the wav files, but I tried switching it to 23.98. saved the files, bring them back into resolve and they still are listed as 24fps for some reason

why is this?

PluralEyes is better than any of the similar functions in NLEs. I always use it on projects where audio has no TC or clapper.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
