Fusion Connect clip renders without noise reduction

PostSat Oct 21, 2017 3:32 pm

Resolve Studio 14.0.1 Windows

My DNG sequence in Resolve is being processed to RGB and has some minor color adjustments and transforms applied along with some temporal noise reduction. If I render out an EXR sequence of the shot from the Deliver tab, I get images that match what I'm seeing in Resolve. However, if I render out an EXR sequence to make a Fusion Connect clip, the temporal noise reduction is not applied. All the other modifications are, however.

This seems like a bug.

Hey,

What d'you mean, Chad, by "render out an EXR sequence to make a Fusion Connect clip" ? It means you don't see the NR applied in Fusion or that you don't see NR applied when what you render is a Fusion Connect clip ?

Aside of this, did you try puttin the NR node's cache on ?

So the DNG settings are applied, as well as the grade. So all the colors are good matches between rendering the Connect clip and exporting from the Delivery tab. Only difference is the noise reduction. It's completely turned off in the Connect output.

Node cache was set to Auto, but I'm not sure what impact that should have on the Connect clip. I was under the assumption that it was supposed to be WYSIWYG, but it's not, the output becomes noisier immediately after the render is completed as it's reading in the EXR sequence, not the DNG one.

I noticed the issue in Fusion first, but it's visible in Resolve too.

Well, in this case, it looks like a bug indeed

Fortunately, I can render out "individual clips" from the delivery tab and I'm back in business, but the Connect workflow would have been nice. It's a stereoscopic project, so I have to do a separate conform, so it's not a huge issue for me, just took me a while to catch what happened.

Ok, fine you found a workaround... I don't see quite a lot of people having issues with Fu connect clips - except one about alpha channel that I never had with ProRes and which seems to be easily fixable.
But I remember I had to have a couple of with compound clips which don't take some stuff into account (fixable too with "open in timeline" or grouping clips instead), so I hardly make some.
In the same field, it's not possible to have stabilization applied in a node only. I believe your issue is a sort mix of those two...
