Resolve 9 - GPU not working

PostFri Mar 22, 2013 2:41 am

I'm having an issue with my newly installed resolve 9.

The GPU bar upon playback down not show green nor red. It just shows nothing and I'm 100% not getting a performance bump from my GPU.

I'm running a very fast system:

6 core i7
24GB DDR3

The GPU in question is a Quadro 4000.

Under the "settings" section in resolve, it shows the card being detected.

Hi, could you offer some more detail?
Which hardware platform, model, year?
Which OS version?
Which Resolve specific version?
Is your GUI monitor plugged into the Q4000?
Do you have any other GPUs installed?
What resolution are the files?
What is the timeline resolution set too?

Which hardware platform, model, year?

I unsure exactly what you mean. If this is regarding resolve. I only have the software that shipped with my BMCC. No additional grading hardware at this point.

Which OS version?

Windows 7

Which Resolve specific version?

9.1.1.013

Is your GUI monitor plugged into the Q4000?

Yes

Do you have any other GPUs installed?

No

What resolution are the files?

BMCC DNG Raw 2.5k Files

What is the timeline resolution set too?

2432 x 1366

Thanks Peter!

A Quadro 4000 card is not good enough to play back the BMCC raw files in real time. A GTX570 should work nicely.

Thanks for the details peter...I'm not 100% sure I understand.

The GTX570 is a less spec heavy card and a much cheaper card.

My Quadro currently plays back Redcode raw files in premiere with grades from redcinex or even heavy destructive grades using Magic Bullet, in CS6 smooth with no lag what-so-ever.

It's not that I don't believe you...I just don't understand.

Uhhh,

GTX570 has 480 CUDA cores and memory bandwidth of 152Mhz.

Quadro 4000 has 256 CUDA cores and memory bandwidth 89 Mhz.

The GTX570 is about twice as powerful.

You are correct about the GTX570 being much cheaper.

And if you get the GTX570, you should get the version with 2.5GB of VRAM, and not the 1.25GB version.

Dwaine,
Thanks for this insight.

If I run both cards, will this present any problem? I'd like to keep my quadro for inside CS6 as it's very fast on that particular piece of software.

Assuming your motherboard has enough full bandwidth 16 lane PCI 2.0 slots to support the 2 cards, that should work fine for Resolve. I'm not sure what CS6 will do.

Thanks very much for the details.
I think, looking into it more. I may just upgrade to a GTX Titan as it seems to be the current CUDA leader.

Cheers.
