Best mouse

PostSun Feb 04, 2018 4:33 pm

Hi Everyone

Just started out video editing and wish to know what mouse do you experienced editors recommend, after a bit of research the Logitech MX Master 2S Mouse seems to have favourable reviews but how well does it work in Davinci 14.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Tablet it is.
Takes a bit to get used to it, but then you never go back to potato pushing.

i have a regular m$ 5 button mouse and wacom tablet which serves most of my needs in all programs incl resolve.

my colour grading is fairly basic in nature, but if i was doing it for serious money i'd certainly get a bm panel.

as an aside - i do try and use both to avoid any rsi related problems.

I use the same mouse as million-dollar Technicolor colorist Steven J. Scott uses: a $12 HP wired 3-button optical mouse. I actually bought three of them so in case one fails, I have some backups. Ideal for Resolve, zero issues.

If you need a mouse I think a large trackball is the best from an ergonomics point of view. Finger control for ball navigation, the thumb for clicking and the ring finger for the scroll ring. It's the best way to avoid repetitive stress syndrome in the hands and fingers and takes away stress on the arm because you are not moving the arm.

I am right-handed, so my right hand holds my Logitech Wave wireless mouse and jumps to the keyboard when needed. In my left hand I use a ShuttlePro v2. It has presets for Resolve, works with Windows 10 even though its control panel was designed a while back with an outdated look and feel. Works well and allows smooth scrolling/zooming/step editing.

at least A mouse 3 buttons but including the middle wheel that can click and hold. It can be used to drag in the viewer a few times.

I have a logitech mx518 very robust that serves me for everything (there is more modern )

I'm burning through mice like a mad man.
Not sure what I do, but usually after a few months, the finger wheel fails, and I have to buy a new one.
Tried a ton of brands, but they are ether bad for my wrist, or I have that wheel problem.

Don't need something fancy, 2 buttons and a wheel are good enough, and yeah, a cable.

The Logitech, MX Master 2S Wireless was listed in a video insight at Mixinglight awhile ago. After trying mouse after mouse, I got it. I haven't had the need to look back into other solution since.
The mouse doesn't even require a pad underneath to work. It works with MacOS and PC.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... eless.html

Here is a short description:
"The MX Master 2S Wireless Mouse from Logitech is an ergonomic and versatile mouse designed for comfort and convenience. It's built with a 4000 dpi Darkfield laser sensor that's capable of tracking on virtually any surface, so you can use it comfortably on your desk, jeans, or even on glass. Moreover, it can be paired with three Mac or Windows systems simultaneously using the downloadable Logitech Options software, allowing you to copy/paste text, images, and files from one computer to another. The mouse connects via Bluetooth or the included Unifying receiver. Aside from the standard left- and right-click buttons, it also has two thumb buttons, a fast scroll wheel, and another scroll wheel near the thumb buttons. The built-in 500 mAh battery is rated to last up to 70 days, depending on use, and recharges quickly in as little as three minutes."

I know it's not a mouse and not for everyone, but have you tried a Wacom Tablet?

I find the Wacom Intuos Pro tablets are fantastic for Color grading work.

They have a Precision Mode toggle button that remaps the entire tablet surface to a small 1-3 inch screen area around the mouse pointer. This makes gently nudging values so much faster and precise vs any mouse I've used.

I decided to go for the Logitech MX Master. I have to say I'm very happy with it.

Is it transformational? No.

But, it feels very nice in the hand and is very comfortable to use for long periods. You may find yourself just wanting to hold it when sitting near the PC.

The side scroll wheel is nice for moving the timeline back and forth and, in combination with the Alt key allows for a nice smooth and easily controlled zoom in and out on the timeline that allows you to zoom or out just the right amount. No more zooming in and out in chunks using the keys or fiddling with the slider.

There is an extra button under your thumb that I have configured to work differently in Davinci. When on the PC generally I use it to switch between applications quickly, but in Davinci I have set it up as the blade, so I can position the head and but without having to touch the keyboard.

I also like that it is rechargeable through the USB cable. Anyone with a child that has an xbox will know how frustrating it can be to find a pile of dead AA batteries just when you need one to get some work done.

I managed to get mine on a lightning deal for just $49. Personally, I feel it was money well spent.

Hopefully people found that helpful.

I can’t see using a tablet for long periods of time. My arm and fingers would get tired holding the stylus up for 8 hours a day.

Thinking about this, I just thought of a new accessory. An adjustable raised wrist rest for tablet users. Holds and cradles your wrist up but allows you to smoothly move the stylus around the tablet.

+1 for the Kensington. Alas, they dropped the pool ball size in their latest (but aged) installment... four buttons, combinable, scroll wheel and, the best of it: as much your desk might be cluttered that is as long as you see the track ball: you're good. Smallest footprint so to say. And who didn't love Asteroids?

Fact remains Razer did have a few very strong products that lasted, and those mice are among them. Things do change over time. Razer is indeed producing low quality today, but before they got picked up at large by Esports crowd, it was geek heaven.

The one constant in time seems to be logitech when it comes to mice, or peripherals in a broad sense. It usually has a baseline of quality that is just very good. They also seem to find innovations that truly work and last. Their wireless tech right now for example... if I would ever go wireless on mice for gaming, it'd be with that.
I believe some of them will generate your interest or attention atleast.
