BUG: Crash | Freeze after Copy + Paste

PostSun Mar 25, 2018 4:48 am

Windows 10 Pro
8-Core / 16-Core w/ Hyperthreading
16GB DDR4 Ram
GTX 1080
ALL MEDIA IS ON SSD DRIVES

Written in 3 times over the past week discussing stability issues related to DR 14. One of the issues is not being able to go back to 12.5.6 with projects that were created in DR 14... Have un-installed and re-installed DR 14 3 times. It's the same issues... The same problems. Haven't heard back even one single reply!

Here in a situation whereby the edit needs to be completely re-edited based on having created compound clips... You know the oversought compound clips that don't retain alpha channels.

Spent the last week in an attempt to work out the kinks... Essentially edit in turtle mode to gain a sense of stability / momentum and find work arounds. Then again, I'm still in the same situation.
Zero dependability here with DR 14.3. The program simply can't handle itself; even when significantly limiting areas that are Ram dependent and GPU dependent.

Honestly, I had significantly greater efficiency/productivity on a laptop with 12.1 than I do on an 8-Core GTX 1080 desktop with 14.3!

Just making sure that something as simple as a copy/paste not working stays at the top of the forum.

Can't quite the program... Can't force quite the program...

Task manager reports 80% memory usage. However, there is literally about 20% actually being accounted for on the applications readout. That means that there is about 60% of random error reciprocating through DR 14.3 in some way shape or form.

P.S. DR 14.3 in my preferences is setup to utilize a max of 8GB worth of 16GB of RAM.

Maybe it's something as simple as blending modes or Alpha channels?

For example, a blending mode layer with a layer underneath that has a dissolve in place, turns to a pure black image. However, if the blending mode layer and the layer underneath both share the same dissolve length and time-frame, then they both dissolve properly.

Copy / Paste BUG 2...

Copy / Paste from one timeline to another. The paste is successful. However, the click-drag to select the recently pasted files results in a complete freeze.

At this point, the program is rendered useless for the next 5 minutes waiting for Windows to realize that DaVinci is not working properly. In the meantime, there's nothing I can do to force quite and even quite the program.

Exported FCP XML 1.3, FCP XML 1.5, AAC, and EDL. Unfortunately, not one of these files are being properly translated into a separate editing program. In fact, absolutely nothing is imported in any separate editing program.

Interestingly, this same project file exported / imported into a separate editing program last week; albeit without compound clips. At least, however, it offered the ability to import footage that was associated with the edit.

So, after a week's wort of care / concern, it's now simply too-far-gone. DR 14.3 is simply not productive.

Good bye.

Just as a point of reference, this is what DR thinks of it's own EDL, AAF... DR 14 is lost.

Can you set the pre allocated memory to 4000 and check you have the appropriate CUDA driver for your GPU.

The latest CUDA drivers are available from here https://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-cu ... river.html

Had the latest NVIDIA GPU driver installed via GeForce Experience. Oddly, they never linked or addressed any reference to the need to install / download a CUDA driver. That being said, at no point was a CUDA driver installed. The result appears to be a huge, HUGE performance benefit.

Thanks Mr. Chamberlain. Certainly respect the direction here.
