Some 12bit DNG files are incorrectly interpreted as 16bit

PostSat Jan 19, 2019 2:08 pm

I have some 12-bit Cinema DNG sequences I've brought into Resolve (Not from a Blackmagic camera)
While they play back ok, the metadata panel reports them as 16-bit even though they're 12-bit.

Due to this, the image appears very underexposed (My educated guess is 4 stops underexposed as the 12bit white point is 4095 and Resolve thinks they're 16-bit so thats 4 stops less than a 16-bit white point of 65535)

I've checked the DNGs with Adobe's DNG validator and they report correctly as 12-bit in there.

Is this a known issue with DNGs from Non-Blackmagic Cameras? If any support know about some magic additional DNG TIFF tags Resolve is using to determine the bit depth I'd love to know!

Thanks
Russell
