My Resolve doesn't run and is stuck with the black project manager.

Here is my log file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E2zf-c ... sp=sharing

I've already done uninstall and install. It won't fix at all.
Please help me with this. Thanks!

For some reason, you've selected OpenCL GPU processing mode in Resolve Preferences - System - Memory and GPU. The GPU Processing mode needs to be Auto or CUDA.

See if you can get into Resolve Preferences from the black Project Manager screen, by pressing <CTRL> and <,> (comma). If you can, change the GPU processing mode to Auto, save the prefs and restart Resolve. Now does it work?

If you can't get into Preferences, then do the following:

The following process will MOVE your Resolve preferences files to a backup location. This will force Resolve to create a new set of default preferences files when it launches. If this solves the launch issue, that would imply there was some corrupt preferences related file causing the startup issue.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\aungp\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Rename the Preferences folder to Preferences.old

Now see if Resolve will start.

If it does, it will have all the Resolve preferences set to default values.

If you had more than the standard default "Local Database" project library, those will not be shown. You'll need select the "Add Project Library" button and then select the "Connect" item, then enter the name and location of the project library(s). You can find that info in the dblist.conf file in the Preferences.old folder.

And if you had any other Resolve Preferences items modified from their default values, you'll need to modify those again as desired.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file. Also send a Windows System Information .NFO file. To create that, open the Windows System Information app, and select its File - Save menu.

Hey dear Dwaine Maggart, I urgently need your help,

I was using DaVinci normally and suddenly it stopped starting. When I press on it there is no sign of life except the blue loading circle for 2 seconds.

I have already done everything from Scott Fichter's video.

The program is visible for two seconds in the task manager before it immediately disappears and stops. In the View Reliability History it says that the app crashes and it says "cannot be executed".

I have already tried Windows 8 compatibility, I have already disabled the internal graphics card, I have already enabled IGPU Multi-Monitor, I have increased Virtual Memory, I have reinstalled DaVinci several times clean, I have already changed the Preferences name ending in orig and bad, I have removed all devices from the PC, I have no VPN and no other anti-virus, I have already updated my driver.

Here is my log file: https://w w w.transfernow.net/dl/202401112FQwLdOM

Here is my NFO file: https://w w w.transfernow.net/dl/20240111htGOrdSB

I have Windows 11 Pro, GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4080, CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950x3d, 96Gb RAM, 4Tb SSD

Thank you for your help

Greetings David

Good day Dwaine,

After three days of trying to hammer out this problem myself, I have now decided to turn to your divine assistance.

Problem:
Similar to others my Davinci Resolve pops up in Task Manager when attempting to launch Resolve, the status "Suspended" then flashes on and off before the program fails and closes. There are no visuals indicating that Resolve has successfully run. This problem started in the middle of my editing and then suddenly without any warning or error message my screen turned black but not off. Nothing I did could turn my screen back to normal so I shut my PC down with its power button and turned it back on after this the problem started.

Specs
Resolve Version - Latest as of 1/12/2024
WINDOWS 10 HOME 22H2
16.0GB Installed RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.41 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960

.NFO File
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RhLKvU ... sp=sharing

Fix Attempts
- I have tried multiple times to completely delete any files related to Blackmagic and Resolve using the program Revo Uninstaller but still to no avail.
- I have already updated my drivers

Your consistent engagement in this thread has not gone unnoticed, and I genuinely appreciate your enthusiasm. I'm hopeful that your response may finally fix my problem.

There was no NFO file attached. You'll likely need to put that on Google drive and provide a link, as you did for the Resolve log file.

The Resolve log file shows that the Resolve GPU detect process is crashing. I'll need the NFO file to see why that's happening.

When Resolve was last working, you had NVIDIA driver 466.84 installed. A pretty old driver, and a current driver would be better.

But the NFO indicates that you now have NVIDIA driver 354.07 installed. That's definitely too old to work.

I'd recommend going to the NVIDIA driver download site and downloading and installing the current GTX960 driver, which is 546.65.

And when you run the driver installer, select the Custom Install method and then select to do a Clean install.

If you still have issues after that, send another Resolve log and NFO file.

The Resolve GPU detect process is crashing due to this file:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OpenCL.dll

You have installed Resolve 17.2. I would suggest you install the current Resolve 18.6.4 release, and see if it behaves differently. If Resolve 18.6.4 still doesn't run, send an updated NFO and Resolve log file.

You can find the Windows 18.6.4 free Resolve release here:

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/suppor ... 6d/Windows

You can install this over top of the 17.2 install. You do not need to uninstall 17.2 first.

@Rares:

Your config.dat file is bad.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Now Resolve should start.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

Your Python 3.12 install is crashing Resolve for some reason. If you're not really using Python, uninstalling that would likely be the easiest solution.

If that doesn't help, send another Resolve log, and we also need a Windows System Information .NFO file, which you can generate by opening the Windows System Information app and selecting its File - Save menu.

Good day,

it seems to be a recurrent issue, for everyone a different solution.

I have the problems after an accidental overfilled hard drive.

(At this moment I am not able to upload an URL for NFO and log files
Perhaps because I just registered in the forum)

[Update]
Just overwritten the config.dat file with the config.dat.bak file.
All is working once more.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you need to post a link, simply add a space somewhere close to the beginning of the URL.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Tried 18 first, and got the very common error which I believe is related to a graphics driver, but it's no longer producing that error - it simply not showing anything. Same result with 19.

Re: Resolve won't start

@Greg: That's not the log we need. Details below.

Your NFO shows Resolve is crashing during the GPU detect stage from the nvcuda64.dll file.

However, your NFO only shows an AMD iGPU available. So why is there an nvcuda64.dll installed?

Well, the specs for your laptop model show it has an RTX3070 Ti GPU. The question then is: why isn't that being shown in the NFO - Components - Display area? Do you have it disabled in Device Manager?

You need to fix that. Once the 3070 shows up in System Information - Components - Display, what does Resolve do?

If you still have issues, send another NFO file and a proper Resolve logs set, which you can generate with this process:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

@Kasim: The crash is being caused by your Python 3.1.2 install. Simple solution would be to remove Python 3.1.2 from your system, if you are not using it.

If you do need Python, uninstall Python 3.1.2 and then install the current stable version.

@Dwaine thanks - it's working now. It was very simple - my laptop was in a mode where the GPU was disabled when running on battery power, EVEN IF an application requested it. (and yes, I was using battery power). Needless to say, it would be nice of Resolve could handle this situation gracefully, but I'm grateful for your rapid assistance.
