BUG: Resolve can't manage relinking of duplicated filenames

PostMon Dec 02, 2019 5:09 pm

If you have duplicated(same) file names in your project(media pool), and you move the source files outside the Resolve, the relink mechanizm fails, mix the files, the clip in media pool will link to wrong source files in filesystem. Nightmare. The relink function doesn't take care of it, It doesn't inform you there is file name duplication, it simple mix the files and fails all the project!!! There will be a good solution if Resolve would handle not only the file names but even to create a digest mechanizm like md5, etc.

If you export the project, and modifying the paths in those files, and import again there is no effect in resolve even if you create a new project, new db, new folder, there is no way updates the paths inside Resolve, very annoying :(

Don't do that. Here's some good practice to follow.

1. Always copy the full media card to an internal working drive for editing.

2. Don't move, rename or delete anything from the card you just copied. (You can move the entire card, but always keep it intact.)

3. Name your folders according to the card it came from, and mirror that for the bin structure in Resolve. For example:

Project ABC
___Camera A
______Card 1
___Camera B
______Card 1
______Card 2

etc.

4. Organize your media using a file manager before you import it into a project.

5. Use metadata and Smart Bins to further organize the media within the project. (Resolve's capabilities here are extensive and very helpful.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thank you so much! But this is nonsense you can't modify any part of a map structure if you have duplicate filenames in it becuase Resolve mixes the files without any inform!

SOLUTION(for me):

With "Chage Source Folder" you can modify first part of the path, so you can change a root directory and if you keep the folder structure during the displacement Resolve assigns the correct absolute path to the clip with adding the custom relative paths after the root(even if you have duplicate filenames), if you have complex structure in "media pool" use the "smart bin" to select all resources so you can do it batch style relink.
