how to import 3d object with texture and color

PostTue Dec 03, 2019 4:26 pm

I've created 3d object (simple pine wood cube) in Fusion 360 and imported into DR via fusion page. I get the shape (FBX mesh 3d node) as well as the Blin 3b1 node labeled "pine" but it seems to be an empty material node (all white) with none of the colors and textures from the original object. Some research shows that Fusion 360 doesn't export texture files at this time so my question is... which software do you use that will allow me to export these material properties so I can import them into DR

Procedural textures won't carry through into Fusion.

If your texture is not procedural, you can add a loader node for the pine wood texture and connect it to the Blinn node...

The problem I have here is that the software I use to make the 3d models doesn't allow me to export the textures as seperate files. I'm wondering what everyone uses to make their models that can do this

I understand but I'm trying to say that, if you used an external image texture file (like a jpg or tiff) in Fusion360, you can re-import that file from disk via the Fusion loader node and connect it to the material you got from loading the FBX. You don't have to be able to export the image texture from Fusion360. Anyway, Fusion FBX loader doesn't only support FBX, you can try other 3D formats (there is a drop down list of file types in the requester where you select which FBX scene to load).
Note that you cannot directly transfer all of the material features of one program into another...some may pass through, but generally you'd have to redo the material in Fusion again.

I worked with .obj and .fbx and .abc files from Maya and Wings3D, if this helps. Alembic worked well with animation but sucked at transfering materials and textures.
