Davinci resolve 16.1.2.026 crashing because of a USB-Headset

PostSun Jan 26, 2020 9:24 pm

Before I used DaVinci Resolve 15; since I use 16, it keeps crashing on startup of the program and projects if my USB-Headset is active and connected to my PC. And if I decide to unplug it, start Resolve and plug it in again, Resolve doesn't give out audio to any audio device. This is just ridiculous. Why does that problem exist now in Resolve 16?

This could well be an audio driver or system possible beyond Resolve.

Have you set your headset to be the default playback device in the Windows Sound tab?

I find it best to pass on USB audio. Use proper audio connections only.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

USB audio can be very good, products from RME have infallible drivers that work all the time. But maybe some cheap devices with bad drivers or hacky hardware could definitely cause problems. What brand is the USB headset? Does resolve work with other audio devices if you reset the audio settings and restart resolve? If so maybe it is your USB headset not resolve that is the problem, the fact that it worked before does not mean it is good, or that there is a problem with resolve.

That statement is too blanket.

I'd hate to have to forgo high quality multi-channel I/O on XLRs just to have internal audio.

In practice, many professional USB audio interfaces work very well. Better than some PCIe cards.

In my experience, I've found in recent years that VIA USB3 chipsets often have issues with audio interfaces, even with the latest drivers form both VIA and Microsoft.

I use a Berringer Audio Interface USB and it works like a charm. Never had a problem. Connect my monitor speakers via XLR to it.

What OS are you using?

What headset?

Could you please make the hang happen, then unplug the headset, start Resolve and capture logs from the help menu and post a link here please?

Thanks,
