No Audio Playback in Timeline

PostTue Jan 28, 2020 12:03 am

Hello there folks. I'm running Davinci Resolve on an early 2011 iMac. I have footage from a hand camcorder, a zoom camcorder, a zoom audio recorder, a cell phone, and a DSLR. They play fine individually. They play fine in the Multicam sequence. When I create a timeline using the Multicam sequences (There are two separate Multicam sequences due to the intermission of the concert), the audio stops working and I don't even get audio signal in the mixer. I do have all audio tracks activated in all timelines and sequences. This is my first edit job in Davinci after working in Premiere Pro for years. I want to like it but I can't start to like it if I can't get it to work! Help me like it!

Ah, High Sierra is not certified for v16.1.2... so im not sure what might be not working. I'm guessing you are on that OS as its quite and old iMac for Resolve too.

Do both multicam sequences not play in the timeline but do in the media page viewer with audio?

do you see the VU meters active here?

They're active for a very short time and then stop. So I should upgrade my OS. I do know how to force upgrade the OS I just haven't because I didn't feel the need to. But video editing is a HUGE part of our business, so it is a need to! Mojave? I haven't really heard good things about Catalina, so I don't know if I am willing to upgrade to Catalina yet.

Do you have access to a much more modern Mac.. the 2011 iMac is not really suitable... im not saying this is necessarily causing the issue, but looking at the logs, you have only 512MB of GPU memory and we recommend 4GB as Resolve is a GPU based image processor.

I can also see the errors on the handicam clips. what is the res of the video?
Maybe you can post a link to a small one and we can verify they work on a current model iMac.

While it’s not officially supported, High Sierra is working with 16 on our reliable older MacPros (with Nvidia cards). I would think it points to insufficient hardware.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

It is a 4K Resolution video. It's 2880 x 2160.

Here is a link to the 7 minute clip in my google drive:

It seems to be a pretty uncommon format that is not only showing problems in Resolve, but it even crashes some of my converters.

But Handbrake can convert it and it plays fine then in Resolve for me.
Take care to set the uncommon picture size (4K is normally 16:9) manually and I'd also convert the audio sample rate to 48 kHz.
