Animate the Raw Tab?

PostMon Mar 08, 2021 11:55 pm

Am I the only one who would love to animate the parameters in the Raw tab of Davinci Resolve? I would love to be able to animate the white balance when going in and out of buildings in a continuous shot. I have to render two clips and animate between them in final cut. Not fun. Why can't we animate on the raw tab? I am on version 16. Does 17 allow it?

No 17 doesn't add this feature. (I'm a little skeptical this would be possible.)

But you can animate the other color parameters. Using RAW footage, I'd expect you'd get outstanding results using the normal Temp/Tint controls.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

It is possible allright, animation is nothing more than changing knob value and you can change it manually already.

I find no way to enable keyframes in the RAW tab, nor any way to access RAW controls in the Keyframes tab.

Well, yes, because Resolve doesn’t let you do it. But not because animating raw parameters is somehow technically impossible but because there is no consistency in knob handling.

Could you cut the original clip at the point you want to change to a different setting?

If you are working with braw clips there is a workaround through sidecar files which support animated parameters (some of them, specifically frame parameters: exposure, tint, temp and iso). There are currently no available tools afaik to bake animated parameters into sidecar, I haven’t worked on that part of my braw player yet, but it is definitely in my plans.
