Setting up Eizo CG 318 for grading

PostWed May 19, 2021 3:31 pm

Hi, I grade with an Eizo CG 318 monitor. I'm from a stills background so for Photoshop I just do a self calibration and it comes up on the color mode. Also in color mode there is Rec 709 and Rec 2020. I usually work in Rec 709 in Davinci. Should I be selecting the Rec 709 color mode on my Eizo? If I do then surely it won't be calibrated.. I'm calibrating using the built in sensor and I just run the self calibration and I'm connected via the USB C type cable.

What is the colorspace of the footage you are using. My HD footage is Rec 709 so that is what my Eizo is calibrated to. If I was using UHD Rec 2020 footage that is what I would calibrate the monitor to. As my HD CS230 does not do self calibration I use a Datacolor SpyderX Pro with Eizo's ColorNavigator 7 software.

The colorspace I shoot in is Blackmagic Film ver 5 so surely I can work in any colorspace I decide to right? I am usually working in Rec 709 though. I'm unclear as to how to set the monitor colorspace and then calibrate in that space? In the menu you can pick a colorspace (rec 709, 2020, etc) or the calibration you made with the built in calibration tool..

Yes, you can use any color space. If you work in Rec709 I would suggest that is what your monitor is set to. As to using the in-built self calibration tools with the CG 318, you would have to consult its' manual.
