Proper GPU slot config

PostTue Oct 02, 2012 5:45 am

Due to the Nvidia 5770 double width footprint I need to install on my Mac Pro - a Quadro 4000 in slot 2 and the 5770 in slot 1. This according to BM not being ideal config. How much performance am I loosing - should I consider getting a replacement to the 5770 so I can let the 4000 take slot 1.

Many Thanks!

A single gtx570 will probably perform better than the q4000 and the ATI pair. They are not expensive.

With what you have, use the ATI 5770 in slot one for GUI and the 4000 in slot 2 for image processing. Its a little more complicated due to power wiring but you can consider moving the 4000 to the GUI task if you add a GTX470/570 at a later date, and in that case, you need to get a power feed from the spare DVD drive bay slot. I suggest you work with someone local that has done that before you head down that path.

Actually, I returned the 4000 today  and bought from MacVidCards a (Nvidia GTX 570 Apple Mac Pro 2.5 GB & GT120 CUDA) which they called "DaVinci Resolve Package"

So I think I am now set-up nicely

THX!
