not possible to re-map scroll wheel, eg in Edit timeline

PostWed Nov 03, 2021 1:16 pm

i am trying to re-map the scroll wheel in the Edit page so that i can scroll back and forth in the timeline with just the scroll wheel, then use Ctl + wheel to scroll up and down the audio tracks (i have about 50). i have looked in Keyboard Customization but i cannot see any trace of being able to change what the mouse wheel does.

i have looked at View > Enable 2D Timeline Scroll, but i want a mixture of the two binary options. otherwise i have to keep switching between Enable and Disable, which is very tedious.

i have searched the latest manual (Aug 2021) and i cannot see any sign of being able to re-map the mouse wheel.

i am hoping desperately that i am just missing something and that it will be possible.

can anyone help me with this?

According to the manual (17.4.1, page 79) vertical scroll should be possible with command scroll. But it is not working for me.
My work around at the moment is: middle click in the timeline and drag.

With my trackpad, I just do two fingers up/down to scroll up and down in the Timeline tracks. On a mouse I think that would be mouse wheel up/down:

Vertical scroll with the mouse wheel works only if the "View -> Enabled 2D Timeline Scroll" is enabled.

that is what i thought. seems quite extraordinary. i will have to keep switching the 2D Timeline Scroll on and off. what a pain. it just mystifies me why BMD won't improve the transport UX in general. we are laying up 30 to 50 tracks and in the end we have to export to Reaper and do the audio post there, then import the stems back in (which is a nightmare if you want to correct something you have missed - which happens all the time). seems absolutely ridiculous when Resolve appears to contain all the main elements needed for full post. i wonder if anyone uses Resolve for anything more complex than short podcast-style YouTube videos to camera and having only a couple of audio tracks?

has anyone used resolve to edit a feature film? if so, i would love to talk to them to see how they managed.

Yes, there are a lot of customisation options that are missing, and a lot of inconsistency between the different pages.

Out of interest, why do you need to keep turning 2D scroll on and off? Does it work differently with a mouse versus trackpad? With 2D Timeline Scroll on I can freely scroll left/right on the timeline and up/down on the tracks at any time, and I've never found any reason to turn that off.

This is working in both, the Color and Edit pages with Logi mouse, MX Master 2S.
In the edit page it work in both ways. With the top wheel it works horizontal, and with the side wheel vertical. In the Color page it works horizontal with either wheel.
