PC for flawless 6K BRAW Q5 editing?

PostTue Feb 22, 2022 5:53 pm

I need to get a new PC for at least BRAW 6K Q5 flawless editing.

I guess I need:
Windows 10 Pro (or better 11?),
i7-12700KF 3,60 GHz (or i9?),
RTX 3060 Ti 8GB,
32GB DDR4 RAM (or is 16GB enough?)
SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe

Will this system cut it?
What do you think?

Hi.

In Resolve the CPU is used to run the app, disk I/O, fusion, decode and encode of codecs.
Resolve does all its image processing in the GPU on the graphics card. Higher CUDA/OpenCL performance is better.

Resolve do all its Image processing in RGB fp32. 4K videos have 4 times the pixels of HD. And for 4K is the absolute minimum 6 GB of vRam on the Graphics Card, but minimum 6 GB of vRam, but more are recommended.

I don't use BRAW 6K Q5 myself and don't know how strong a Graphics Card it require. But have you
considered a RTX 3060 with 12 GB?

And a i7-12700KF require Windows 11, to take advantage of all its cores.

Regards Carsten.

If you are planning to use 6K in a 4K or UHD timeline, 8 GB VRAM should be OK for most tasks.
But if you intend to do anything at source resolution, like temporal NR, better get 12 GB.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

It's false economy to buy an F chip. If you ever need to edit HEVC you'll regret it. How much less is it BTW?

It's not true you need Win11 for Alderlake. Puget Systems has done some testing.

If it was me I'd want more ram. I'd likely want more Vram. I'd want more and bigger NVME drives. One for OS and applications. One for cache. One for media would be ideal. I'd want fast ports for your card reader. I'd want a fast Ethernet port if you're using a NAS.

I would expect that hardware to work pretty well. My personal preference would be to get a smaller drive for System and add several more:

System
Databases
Export
Media
Cache
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

The 3060 Ti 8GB has a G3D benchmark of 20.000 the 3060 12GB only a 16.800 G3D benchmark.

Would you prefer the 12GB with a less powerful card over the 8GB GPU with more power?

Do you mean you would prefer the i7-12700K over the i7-12700KF? Why?

Or what do you mean?
Which CPU (in about the same pricerange) with which chip would u recommend?

Which ports would you prefer?

Yes If you want an I7 get the 12700K not the F model. Look at the first link I posted. The F doesn't have the media decoder on board.

I'd want the latest ports. TB4 US 3.2. Gen 2. The more the better.
