URGENT: CentOS 6.4 ISO image burn not installing the system

PostSat Nov 23, 2013 11:20 pm

Hi there,

We are trying to install CentOS 6.4 as per given instructions in linux configuration guide, but not success.
Following the simple steps given in the guide,

1) As per Step 3, Entering the The exact command line written in the configuration guide "/mnt/Resolve_DVD/copy_postinstall_files.sh/RHEL_RESOLVE_DVD.iso" ,

2) Entering the above command getting an error "Not a Directory"

3) We removed the "/" from just before "RHEL_RESOLVE_DVD.iso" (which is the name of the iso file which going to be created), So i thought the "/" is a typo error and entered the command "/mnt/Resolve_DVD/copy_postinstall_files.sh RHEL_RESOLVE_DVD.iso"

4) As soon as ran the command without "/" the ISO image file creation initiated and within few minutes it get completed and we found the ISO file named "RHEL_RESOLVE_DVD.iso" in "RHEL_IMAGE" folder (from where we ran the command).

5) We Burned the "RHEL_RESOLVE_DVD.iso" image file on DVD, and continue to the next step.

6) The dvd got booted and the installation process has been started and Black magic Davinci Resolve 9.1.1 installation menu appeared, we select the "Option 1" (Gui Installation).

7) After a little while the we got the strange error message pop up
"DISK NOT FOUND"
The Centos disc was not found in any of CDROM drives. Please insert the CentOS disc and press OK to try"
OK - BACK

Please find attached image for the reference.

We are really in a fix and have film project in hand, we need to run the Davinci Resolve on CentOS 6.x as we are using Areca 1882 Series Raid Controller and will use XFS file system with 32TB internal storage.

Your immediate reply is highly appreciated.

Hi Peter,

Just a quick question.

The Davinci Linux v10 (downloaded from support site) and can be installed on any CentOS 6.3 fresh install? Please note: I am not talking about "Update v10" on existing installed Davinci 9 through supplied installation DVD (based on CentOS 5.x)?

You can email me at tahir@sharpimageonline.com
Company: Sharp Image
Country: Pakistan
System: Davinci Resolve (Full Version, control surface)

Hi Peter,

I am very disappointed kind of question and advice i am getting from “Mediacast” Dubai,
First they need your support and training to support the customers, They are not able to understand the submitted query in the first place or even simply don’t read. Top of that they don’t even know what and where the linux configuration guide is.

Please see my query below and BMD support reply aim getting.
My Support ID/Title is,
[Support ~LDJ-196-55259]: Fwd: Linux Contos 6.3 Instllation as per latest cnfiguration guide

————————————-
Query I posted for support is,
————————————-
> Subject/Title: Linux Contos 6.3 Instllation as per latest cnfiguration guide
> Driver Version: v10
> OS Version: CentOS6.3
> Product Series: DaVinci Resolve
> Product: DaVinci Resolve
> Enquiry: Hi there,
> We must need to run our system on Centos 6.3 as our Raid controller card
> dont have support on Centos 5.5, We tried the method by making an ISO image
> but there is no success and things getting very complex.
> As you guys mentioned the method of making the ISO image then please can you
> make an ISO image with Centos OS 6.3 and upload to your website so we can
> download and move on.
> Looking forward for serious support here.

———————————————————————————————————
This is what i got from them through local seller,
—————————-——————————————————————

“download the application from the website and use this to install the resolve software as opposed to using the DVD.
Link: http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/detail/register?sid=3948&pid=4447&fid=0&did=47932&os=linux&alt=true&sdk=false
I can see that you are trying to install Resolve 9.1.1.
CentOS 6.3 Support has been provided as an enhancement in Version 10 of Resolve.
Also, please advise which configuration guide you are following in order for us to use it as reference in understanding the problem further.”

Hi Tahir,

The CentOS 6.4 ISO has not been released and not available yet. Please use the CentOS 5.4 DVD which comes with your DaVinci Control Panel.

We hope to have the 6.4 update available in the next few weeks, and will publish instructions on how to obtain it if you own the Linux license.

Regards,
Rohit

Hi Rohit,

Thank you for your reply.
I know you guys did not released the 6.x installer yet.

As per given following instructions in "Linux Config 2012" Page No. 12 and the similar instructions (for CentoOS/RHEL 6.3) in "Linux Config Guide 2013" on Page 14, Under "Installing Linux" heading.
--------------------------------
1. On another CentOS/RHEL system, extract your third party supplied RHEL 5.4 ISO image to a directory (for example /RHEL_IMAGE)
2. Mount the BMD supplied Resolve DVD to a folder (for example /mnt/Resolve_DVD)
3. Open Terminal and type > cd /RHEL_IMAGE
> select return, then type
> /mnt/Resolve_DVD/copy_postinstall_files.sh/RHEL_RESOLVE_DVD.iso
Note: /RHEL_RESOLVE_DVD.iso will become the new RHEL 5.4 ISO image of the Resolve installer DVD.
5. Burn that ISO to a DVD.

---------------------------------

My question is,
Can we use Extract our third party supplied RHEL/CentOS 6.x ISO to directory opposed 5.4 in above step 1 and make a New ISO image of the installer DVD and install the system with that?

I think the point he's making is that its not fully supported yet on 6.4, but they're working to get it there. From all I've read you can install your own CentOS 5.4 install and then install the software. They just happen to include it with their software.
