I can only say that it's very reliable here under Monterey. No problem with my Mini Monitor either.

Dwain, I just downloaded Resolve 18.6 and it won't open on my MacBook Pro. It looks like it's about to open, but then I see the work screen of Resolve for a second and then it automatically shuts down. I have read this forum and put all the possible files you have asked to see in the following link:

I just realized I posted in the Windows version of this thread and not on a thread talking about Mac.

Hello I see this is the place to ask about Resolve crashing. It just started yesterday but when I go to open up resolve on my laptop (Apple M2 Max, 32 GB RAM, Sonoma 14.1.1) the Project Library will open but then when I go to open a project Resolve will just crash.

It started when I was just editing yesterday and it crashed then I couldn't reopen a project so I tried upgrading from 18.6.2 to 18.6.3. It still crashes. I was able to open up a project after shutting down my computer and trying hours later. I was in that project just now and was watching a clip and the whole program just shutdown.

What can I do to fix this? I saw some posts about corrupted files of some sort but I'm not sure what's happening.

I just turned off dynamic switching to switch to projects though and I was able to get back in.

Now it is crashing when I try to add a freeze frame at the end of a clip.

We can't help without a Resolve diagnostics log.

CaptureLogs.app is in the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder. Double click it to run it. It will put a Resolve logs .tgz file on your Desktop.

***Edited*** I found the capture log in the system library and I was in the user library. See last link for capture logs file

Okay I was unsure how to do that. When I followed your instructions to run the capture log I do not see it in my finder. See screenshot. I did see logs though.

Send us a Project Export .drp file for the following project:

Holidays 2023

Generate the .drp file by opening the Resolve Project Manager page, right clicking the project and selecting Export Project.

Depending on how large the file is, you may need to put it on a file sharing site and provide a link to the file. If you do this, make sure the link does not require access credentials.

Since you are a new forum user, you may not be able to post a URL. If that happens, just put a space near the front of the URL so the forum system doesn't think it's a URL.

If you don't want the project to be publicly available, you can PM it to me.

I can't open any project in resolve. I only get the spinning wheel. It is the same with any project. I have uninstalled and installed. Tried with different versions but it is still the same. I am on sonoma 14.2.1 , macbook from 2019, intelchip.

It looks like Resolve is hanging when you open these projects:

And the unique thing that's happening at the hang point, that is not happening in any of the other logs is this message:

Started FusionAudio Worker thread

And the crash dump when you are force quitting Resolve is in the Fusion area.

I'm not sure exactly what this message means, but seems like something audio related on the Fusion page. Do you have Fusion comps in all those projects?

In the Resolve Project Manager page, right click each of those 3 projects listed above, and select Export Project. Then send us the project drp files to examine.

Hello ,

I have installed DaVinci Resolve 18 for a user, but the application is failing to launch. I have tried renaming the DaVinci Resolve folder, which allows to go through the Quick Setup but then the app crashes again.

The installed Maxon Universe OFX plugins are crashing Resolve.

I'm going to guess that they are the current 2024.1.1 version, which seem to crash Resolve on Mac.

A temp work around is to open Finder, navigate to /Library/OFX and rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.tmp

That will prevent Resolve from seeing those plugins. It will also prevent Resolve from seeing any other OFX plugins you may have installed.

Got a zip file from your website with the installation wizard. Ran wizard and installed 3 different versions. Each one will force close during different steps of the app launch. Pleases see attached. Any help much appreciated

You have Resolve 15.0 installed. Not even sure how you would get that installed on a macOS Ventura system.

They are not the same. The App Store version has some limitations due to Apple app sandboxing requirements. In general, I'd recommend you use the BMD web site version of Resolve.

I have a Late 09 Macbook running 10.13.6 with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB. I tried the resolve 15 because I assumed that would be the latest that my computer will run. Am I out of luck?

OMG, 15 years is an eternity in IT!
Even for version 15 those meagre 256 MB VRAM are too low. Time for a change.
You don't need the latest and greatest MacBook. Look for a good offer for one of the M1 or M2 models, but make sure that you have 16 GB RAM. And once you find one, make sure to run it under Monterey.

My bad. I misread your macOS versions as 13, not as 10.13.6 High Sierra.

So you are correct. Resolve 15 is probably the newest version that would work with that OS.

Why it's not working, I don't know. There is a GPU crash happening for some reason. As Uli mentions, 256 MB of VRAM wouldn't do much, even if it did work. If you really want to get it working, you could try Resolve 14.x and see if that does any better.

Hi Dwaine,

Davinci Resolve Free Version 18.6 from BMD Website is stuck on loading at "Loading Project Libraries".
Reinstall and all the solutions provided from you above didn't help sadly.
I'm on Mac Sonoma 14.2.1

@David:

Somehow your Resolve config.dat and .config.data files have become corrupted, and that's what's preventing Resolve from starting.

These files are located in a hidden folder, so we need to make hidden folders and files visible in Finder. To do that, do the following:

Press Command + Shift + . (period) to make the hidden files and folders appear.

Once you've done that, in Finder navigate to this folder:

/Users/davepat76/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve

Right click the config.dat file and select Move to Trash

Right click the .config.data file and select Move to Trash

Now Resolve should launch. It will create default versions of the 2 config files. If you had made any changes in Resolve Preferences, you will need to make them again.

If you still have an issue with Resolve launching, please send another Resolve log file.

Not sure what's going on.

Looks like yesterday you were working on project SOCIALME_INTERVIEW_250124 and around 16:01, looks like it crashed and then Resolve was not starting after that.

And that project is in project library: SocialMe

Is that a Local Project Library? And is it located on your system hard drive, or on a removable drive of some sort?

Please send this file:

/Users/susanneborgs/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/dblist.conf

That's in a hidden folder location, so you'll need to enable Finder to show hidden files/folders.

This may be an iMac issue, but Resolve Studio is no longer launching. I uninstalled 18.6.3 and installed 18.6.5, but that would freeze before during the install process. I reinstalled 18.6.3 but it is now unresponsive.

Hi there, I just downloaded DaVinci resolve 18 not thirty minutes ago, and it will not launch. It will bounce a few times on a dashboard and then stop. I have a Mac air with Sonoma 14.2.1.

Hi there,
i double clicked on a Project that was exported on my drive.

The loading Screen of Davinci was coming, right after it, it shortly opened the project screen and closed automaticly right after it.

I had 18.6 Studio installed, tried to fix it by installing 18.6.6 Studio but im still not able to open Davinci.

Can you please help?

@Prince: It appears you've either just installed, or just updated, the Maxon Universe plugins to the current 2024.1.1 version, which is not compatible with Resolve 18.

You can either uninstall the plugins, or open Finder, navigate to /Library/OFX and rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.tmp. That will prevent Resolve from attempting to load any third party OFX plugins.

@Lino: Look in your Mac System Settings - Network, select the active network adapter(s) and then Details, and then Proxies. Do you have any of the proxies settings active? If so, that is likely causing the issue. If possible, turn off all the stuff in the Proxies area.

If that's not possible, try reverting to Resolve Studio 18.6.4, and that will likely solve the issue. You can install 18.6.4 over top of 18.6.6 with no issues. No need to uninstall 18.6.6 first.

Mac OS Catalina is in question.
Until recently, I was using version 17. Around the new year, I installed version 18.1.4, ran it to see what was new, and forgot about it. I wanted to do something yesterday, and I just can't get DaVinci to work.

I have tried everything mentioned here. I did a reinstall, but it doesn't help. Deleted the DaVinci folders from the Application Support and Preferences folders, and still no help. On the computer, I also removed all Plugins from the Library/Audio folder, created a new computer user, it doesn't help. Downloaded version 18.1.3 and it doesn't help.

DaVinci crash during the opening screen. System Crash Reporter does not pop up to show logs at all. But it popped up once, so I'm attaching the log here. Although I can extract more logs if necessary.

Resolve 18.1 require macOS 11 Big Sur as minimum and you are on 10.15.
Which error in your log show.

So either you stay on DaVinci Resolve 17.4.6
or you might need to look into a newer Mac.

To answer myself. The installer doesn't complain when I try to install it on an unsupported system. And Resolve installs just fine. From the logs, I figured out that Resolve crashes due to a library that isn't supported. When I copied that library from version 17 into version 18, Resolve 18 starts up just fine.

The only mystery left is how I managed to run Resolve 18 the first time after installation.

Also, you can install Resolve 18.1.4 on Catalina and run it with this little hack

Experiencing the same issue.

Steps taken to resolve (no pun intended):
Re-installed from scratch (uninstalled first)

Deleted:
~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design
~/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design
/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design

Plus re-installed

Renamed Maxon plugins in /Library/OFX to .tmp

I've attached the most recent crash dump:

It looks like an OFX plugin issue.

In Finder, go to the /Library/OFX folder and rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.tmp and see if that helps.

Unfortunately, the former Red Giant plug-ins didn’t get much love after Maxon bought them.
They are crashing DR for me too. Even if they’d work, they are dead slow. Most of their effects, or at least very similar ones, can be found now in DR Studio or in BorisFX.

We need a Resolve diagnostics log. Open Finder and navigate to the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder and double left click the CaptureLogs app to run it.

This will place a Resolve log file with a .tgz extension on your Desktop.

It may be too large to attach here. If so, put it on a file sharing site and provide a link to the file.

Since you are new Forum user, it probably won't allow you to post a URL. If that happens, just put a space near the front of the URL so the system doesn't see it as a URL.
