49" Curved Monitor Question

PostSun Oct 23, 2022 5:58 pm

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how well this 49" curved Samsung monitor will work with Resolve- Studio 18 on PC Windows 10. I'm currently using a 32" 16/9 monitor for the GUI and another 32" & 55" display through Decklink.
Almost all my projects are at 3840/2160, so I'm wondering whether Resolve will scale the GUI correctly over this thing without letterboxing, etc.using a 16/9 project setting

A dear friend of mine is using a similar one. I don't know the exact model, I've just seen him working with it. He's very happy with having such long timelines and has no problems. But then, he's working with a Mac. The only thing to note is that you should have a very stable desk. They tend to wiggle to the sides when the desk get's just a mild push.

It would be great if someone with a PC could chime in, it seems there are more scaling troubles with DR under Windows.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Unless they are doing something super weird with how they programmed the GUI, the display resolution should have no adverse impact on it.

Do you know if this even works with DVR in dual display mode? I'm curious as to how well it calibrates for grading.

I use a 49" monitor configured as two 2K (2160x1440) monitors with the current version of DR Studio. I use this dual 27" monitor configuration in DR with no problems. Then, I use my 4K 28" monitor as my "Video Clean Feed." The monitors are using a total of 3 Display Ports from the video card to the monitors.

Thanks Kent. So do you calibrate them as one monitor or as two separate monitors? If the latter, how precisely do they match?

My 49" Samsung monitor has PBP (Picture by Picture) that "separates the screen into two parts displaying output from two different sources simultaneously on the left and right sides of the screen." The aspect ratio can be configured in several sizes. I use the mode 2560x1440 on each side. An input source must be chosen for each side. I use a display port connected to my video card for each side. The left and right screens have no bezel between them. In addition to configuring using the nVidia Control Panel utility, the Display Tab on the System page in Microsoft's Setting utility is used to set the resolution of each screen. Windows sees each screen as a separate monitor. Then, in DR select Dual Monitor under the Workspace tab and select Primary Display and Secondary Display. If you have another monitor, you can select it for a Clean Video Feed. This is a monitor that could be calibrated for the Color page.
