Multiple exports of short clips from one video.

PostWed Oct 26, 2022 5:12 pm

Hello!

So, my band just released a new video.
I'm tasked with cutting it up into smaller 15s segments for social teaser posts to be uploaded in the coming weeks, pointing people to the full video on Youtube.

Now, I've done the cutting but I suspect there's a better way.

The way I did it was:
- In the edit page, I Ctrl+B'd at 15s, then SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW'd fifteen times (as each press is a one second jump, right). Rinse and repeat.
- Then, in the Deliver page, I press I for In point, down arrow for next cut point, O for out, name that clip, click "Add to Render Queue". Rinse and repeat.

I suspect there's a better way, where I create a new timeline for each clip and then bring all timelines into one extra timeline and then on deliver I tick "Individual clips" like this guy points out
.

I'm just missing a way to generate new timelines from clips... Any thoughts here?
Because now I have the 15s clips all cut.

My next step now will be to add animations to intro and outro, each lasting 2.5s to have the videos be 20s.

So... Timeline template with the intro/outro (since they're all the same) right?
And then pull in each clip and deliver.
Also sounds tedious. Any way to optimize this part?

Start with a timeline that has the two animations.

Load the clip into the Source Monitor, set 15s In/Out points, and Overwrite between animations.

Duplicate timeline, repeat with new clip segment.

So there's no non-tedious way then. Alright.

Thank you!

Editing and tedious are pretty much synonyms. ;)

Mmm, I don't know if I understood the post correctly, but if you have a single clip on your timeline, and you cut it (every 15 secs in your case), on the deliver page, selecting Individual clips for the export will export all the parts in individual files.

The intro and outro are for the 15 secs clips?

if so, you just do your animation for the intro and outro somewhere (on another timeline to be more organized), you copy and past them in front (and at the end) of each of your cut parts, and you make a compound clips for each elements.

If the animations are the same (intro/outro), make them on the same timeline somewhere at the end, make a compound clip of the intro and one of the outro, copy/past them in front/at the end of each clip cut.

lik in the screenshots, and then you just select : render "individual clips", it will render each compound clips in an individual file.

PS.
I'll suggest to have a single key keyboard shortcut for making a cut, CTRL+B is too annoying if anyone has to make more than 1 cut lol.

Yeah I ended up scrapping the outro.
So what I actually did was:

- One timeline had the original, full length video.
- Cut that one into 15s slices.
- New timeline, had the intro animation.
- Duplicate THAT timeline 11 times for a total of 12.
- Alternate between each new timeline and the original one, and copy each clip into each timeline, 12 times.
- Make one last "exporting" timeline, and throw all the 12 timelines in there.
- Deliver page, "export as individual clips".
