Noto Sans font does not work for Text+

I'm on a Mac (M1 Max) and it seems that this font was installed recently (probably via MotionVFX - not sure). The font works correctly with the basic title but with Text+, no go. I've heard others mention fonts that don't work with Fusion titles - is there something that needs to happen on my end to make this work?

HaHa - did some reading - this crap font family with 40+ fonts plus variations is installed by the OS. The thing is, in Ventura it cannot be disabled (previous versions of macOS allowed this font to be disabled). I guess we'll need to wait for a future update to macOS).

I can confirm this. The whole family is working with simple titles, but not with Text+.

Noto Sans is split up into a whole bunch of separate fonts, one for each script/language type, and those fonts only contain the glyphs for that script/language. So for example, "Noto Sans Kannada" only contains numbers, some punctuation and relevant glyphs within the unicode range U+0C80 to U+0CFF. It does not have any latin character glyphs in it. There is a plain "Noto Sans" that contains latin glyphs, but I don't know that that ships with macOS.

In Text if you were to use "Noto Sans Kannada" with latin text, then you won't be getting Noto Sans. It will end up substituting some other sans serif font that has glyphs for latin characters, which will probably give you something like Arial, or perhaps something else depending on what OS you're using and what fonts you have installed. Transferring projects between different machines could produce different results as the substitution might not always be the same.

Text+ will not do any automatic font substitutions that you would have no control over. If the selected font doesn't have the glyph, then you'll get that font's "missing glyph" glyph, which is a square in a lot of fonts but could be anything the font creator decided. On the Fusion page you can use Character Level Styling to explicitly change fonts for selected characters to one that does have the glyphs you're after.

That's amazing. For me, the real issue is the change to macOS that prevents us from disabling this font. Prior to Ventura, you could simply hide the font. Cheers.
