To do an Equalizer on individual clips in Fairlight?

PostSat Jan 14, 2023 4:38 am

Is there a way to do an Equalizer on individual clips in Fairlight other than to move those individual corresponding clips to another track line or use that abridged Equalizer in the Inspector? (That abridged equalizer in the Inspector tab is just too "abridged")

Any third party plugin (VST or AU) may be added as a Clip effect via the Effects Library panel via drag- drop.
⟦ Mac Pro 7,1 Rack ⊕ 16-core 3.2GHz ⊕ 32GB RAM ⊕ Radeon 580X • Resolve Studio 19.0 • macOS 14.4.1 ⟧
⟦ Fairlight Studio Console ⊕ Fairlight Audio Accelerator ⊕ Merging Hapi • Anubis • Ravenna CoreAudio VAD ⟧

"VST"? "AU"? ... I need to look those up. Which one is better?

You also have an equalizer in the Inspector for each clip.

Depends on platform. Windows only supports the VST format. macOS supports VST and Audio Units.

If interchange between platforms is important (both Resolve Projects and plugin presets), use VST.

Yeah, I know. As I stated in the original post, those are too small, too abridged version of the one in the Mixer.

Have a look at Fabfilter Pro-Q3, TDR Nova, and Soundtoys SIE-Q.

Yes, all excellent options.

There is a free version of TDR Nova with the same amount of bands as the Fairlight EQ. Plus TDR Nova is also a dynamic EQ.

Some other free options with more bands are:
WhiteLABEL TENQ
Melda Production MEqualizer

Another free option, which might take a bit to set it up is ReEQ (which looks similar to FabFilter Pro-Q3). It was written for the DAW Reaper using Reaper's JSFX language, but there is a wrapper called YSFX that allows JSFX plugins to run in other DAWs (I have not tried it myself). I imagine it would work with Resolve too.

I would argue that any effect which is available to a track should also be available for the clip.

Let US decide where to use it.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

+1

While I prefer to use third party VST effects, I totally agree that Resolve's track and clip effects should be the same.
