2080 Super overclock

PostMon Jan 16, 2023 11:28 pm

I've been wondering about something and would appreciate opinions. I run DR Studio on a good machine that's getting a bit old. (16 core Ryzen 3950, 64 gigs DDR 4-3200 and Nvidia 2080 Super.)

I'm not interested in overclocking my CPU, as Resolve doesn't come close to maxing it out in my configuration, but the GPU does often go to 100%. I can overclock my GPU using either AMD's Control Center software or MSI Afterburner. When I do, I see about a 10 - 15% gain on GPU Benchmarks and everything runs flawlessly except DR Studio, which becomes laggy and unstable and soon crashes.
I'm not a gamer and don't really need much from my system except for video editing, so I'm not anxious to spend $4k plus replacing it just yet, but I would love to get that extra little bit of speed from my GPU. Am I doing something wrong? Are some of you editing successfully with an overclocked GPU? If so, which GPU and what overclocking software and settings do you use?

Overclocking the gpu goes not do anything for DVR studio. Most likely it will give you problems than good.

If you want to spare your GPU some load, render into a mezzanine codec and separate the process of final encoding into a distribution codec.
Apart from that, I second what Ellory wrote. You’ll loose more time with crashes than you might gain with any overclocking.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
