Noise Reduction on Group Post-Clip--Not Rendering

PostTue Jan 24, 2023 7:27 pm

Hi everyone,

I have an entire timeline of 405 shots with a noise reduction node set up across the board in a group post clip node, and while I can view the NR accurately during playback (ie it works), Resolve disregards this node on render.

Thoughts?

Stupid question, but all you clips are members of the same group?

Not stupid at all as it turns out! Thanks for pointing that out. Didn't realize I had set the first sequence up in a separate group.

Surprised I missed that, thanks for catching it!

You're welcome. In the meantime I just gave it a test and it worked for my on my MacBook. Cheers.

another way to do it is to put an adjustment clip on top of your timeline...

Hey Walter,

Do you do it this way on a regular basis ? Because this means you do it in Edit right ?

I don't just because I more comfortable in Color when tweaking the NR parameters, plus anyway I must admit I've never been really used to the adjustment clip way for anything else that what I'd do for (1) the whole TL (2) in Edit
Given that 1 & 2 are always together (I never use it for just a portion of the TL nor for things I always di in Color)...

Hence my question, because obviously I didn't even try to change my WF :D

Adjustment Clips can be graded in the color tab almost the same way as regular clips. Some features don't work there for logical reasons. But NR can be tweaked there.

Yep, thx, I understand that too, but my question was a bit more about the WF itself. Actually, I don't really use it for grading purposes just because I don't create it in Color, finally...
And yes, this is stupid but just connected to the WF and what actions follow other ones, and when in Color, I don't get back to Edit, create a AdjClip and come back to grade it in Color, that's all (and stupid  )

Thinking about the workflow is really good. I do a lot of conforming. From that perspective I don't really enjoy working with adjustment clips. There are things in the timeline like VFX for example that are updated all the time, so I have to edit them in quite frequently. I'm quite fast with shortcuts, but moving the shots underneath the adjustment clip takes some extra effort.
Of course that's only a small thing, and shouldn't stop the creative work in any way, but it's something to consider nonetheless depending on the project.

Sure there is also the discussion if NR should be applied first or last, and there are a lot of reasons regarding the workflow to put it first instead. Adjustment clips don't allow this flexibility. A shared node would maybe be the more suitable choice for that.

Yep, this is the reason I keep on working with TL level in Color instead of afjustment clips for things related to color/grading, and also use groups and shared nodes, allowing me to do all this stuff in Color.
But I can understand the positive point of adjustment clips, this is why I asked...
Thx for your input anyway.

And then there is the discussion of timeline color grading affecting titles... Is there a way to exclude titles from timeline level color grading? Would be useful to have a general mechanism for excluding a clip from the timeline level color grade pipeline, wouldn't it?

Well yes, true... In this situation I opt for a large group (for everything but the title/graphics)

Keep in mind that temporal noise reduction is not working with adjustment clips.

I didn't know that (or had forgotten, lol). Thanks.

I resolve the issue by having EVERY clip in an appropriated group and then the look is placed there, teh titles do not get the juicy look....

if you dont usually use groups, do a global one for the look and another for the titles....
