Dolby Vision import

PostFri Mar 10, 2023 5:08 pm

Hello, I have been given a Dolby Vision trailer and a sidecar xml.
I can import the .mov file OK but how do I import the xml that has all the coloring info?
The whole idea is to see if I can export a HDR10+SDR file. I do NOT want to do ANY KIND of coloring or changes to the DoVi metadata.

In short, import the .mov and the xml files and export HDR10 and SDR files.
Is what I need possible?

Please note I have the Studio version 16 but NOT the Dolby Vision license.

Thank you in advance.

Make sure you activate Dolby Vision on your Color Management page. In the Color Page, the select the Dolby tab. At the top right corner of that window, click "...." and select Import Metadata from XML.

Thanks for your answer, I will give it a try.
Is there any other info re my file I need to know to set up the sequence?
Or just a create timeline from the file would do and then enable the DoVi option?
And last, what setting I need to export a hdr10 and a sdr?

Thank you!

Okay, so, I managed to import the file and the xml in Resolve. All good so far.
Now I have a question for the export.
How do I export the hdr and sdr files?
Does the project setup needs to have specific settings?
If so, what do I need to know to set the right ones?

Thank you.

Without knowing your project settings and the source file characteristics it's not obvious that your workflow will derive a proper SDR.
You should check the resources at https://professionalsupport.dolby.com and should consider the Dolby Vision self guided training (free) at https://learning.dolby.com

Thank you, I will check those links.
So, if I have my DoVi files, MOV and xml, what do I need to check in order to have the correct project settings?
The problem is I am not starting a project to create a DoVi file, I already have the DoVi file and need to create a Resolve project to match it, so I am confused as to what settings I need to have. Any tips? Thanks!
