Cleaning DaVinci Resolve panel

PostThu Jan 23, 2014 8:44 am

What do you use or how do you clean your Resolve panel?

obviously it's full of finger prints, dust and others that our hands can produce while working, so how do you clean trackballs, display panel, buttons and complete panel generally?

I'd like to know how to clean the trackballs. I can't even figure out how to get them out of the board.

The panels can be cleaned with microfiber cleaning cloths.

To remove a trackball, firmly grasp the metal ring on each side and pull straight up. Then the trackball will just roll out by tilting the panel. Clean the ball, put it back in, and press the metal ring back into place.

Thanks. I managed to take the ring off and blow a little dust out but the ball would not fall out, even from shaking it upside down.

Then you have a very old panel with mechanical trackballs instead of the current laser trackballs. And correct, those trackballs are not removable and what you did is the best you can do.

Hello, how is it with the mini panel, can the trackballs also be disassembled for cleaning?

Yes. Lift the outer ring straight up. It's held on with 4 magnets.

Once the ring has been removed, rotate the plastic inner ring counter-clockwise, and it will lift off, and the trackball can be removed.

When you rotate and lift the trackball retaining ring, be careful not to push against the two thin fingers on the ring with too much force. They provide the appropriate tension on the ball so it does not spin too freely.

I use a piece of Duvetyne, cut to size, to cover my panels when not in use. Protects from dust and looks good.

I found a company that made a finished black cloth cover exactly the size of the Resolve Mini Panel so I can cover it when not in use.

The company is CoverItAudio:

And the covers are only about $25 or so for a unit the size of the Mini. I would bet they could also make one the size of the Advanced Panel.

I have to cover mine to keep out the blood, sweat, tears, and cheeseburger droppings.

Tell them "I have a Resolve Mini Panel" and they'll get you the cover that fits. Mention my name and tell Kathryn hello.

while we're doing some early spring cleaning - how do you clean your monitor screens (non-glass covered panels)?

Plain water and a fluffy towel works for me.

thanks marc. i've been using a damp microfiber cloth - works well apart from:

a. when i sneeze directly at the screen.

b. give it a quick, unintentional shower from one of those really, really bored yawns

c. bang it with my greasy bald head when things don't go according to plan.

in the above examples, i have used a 'little' diluted dishwashing liquid. probably works for vomited cheeseburger as well, especially after the client say's, on viewing the rendered master, there's only a couple of changes i'd like...

Resurrecting an old thread to ask a question:

Do the rubber buttons pop off on the Mini Panel for cleaning? My Mini makes a very annoying squeaking sound when pressing the DISABLE key. Almost sounds like a piece of styrofoam got in there somehow and makes a sound as soon as I press my finger to it.

Did everything I could to peer into the sides of it, but I stopped short of attempting to pop it off. It feels like it should, but I want to make sure it's not a 3 x 3 button membrane as opposed to individual caps.

If anyone knows, I'd greatly appreciate the help!
