Davinci Resolve Lite crashing when import

PostTue Feb 11, 2014 10:17 pm

Hello to everyone. I have installed Davinci Resolve Lite 10.1.1. I try to import clips in the media pool but it keeps crashing when I click on any clip.
I am using an iMac intel core i7 OSX 10.6.8, 2,8GHz, 4GB 1067MHz DDR3.
CUDA driver version: 5.0.37.
GPU Driver version: 1.6.36.10 (256.00.35f11).
Is there a work around?
Tank you.

Your 8800 card, and many other older NVIDIA cards are not supported for CUDA use under Mavericks. If you can use an earlier OSX version, your card would work with Resolve, but not very well. It is under-powered for Resolve and lacks the minimum suggested 2GB of VRAM for running Resolve 10.

Install a graphics card that supports CUDA under Mavericks. Quadro 4000 for Mac, Quadro K5000 for Mac and GTX680 for Mac would be cards you could directly replace your 8800 with.

See message below. Posting Windows questions in the Mac forum adds confusion.

Resolve on Windows will work with supported NVIDIA cards using CUDA, and supported AMD cards using OpenCL, which requires installing the AMD Catalyst driver package.

Details in the Resolve Windows Config guide in the DaVinci Resolve Support area of the BMD web site.

I'm having the same issue. I'm unable to use DaVinci Resolve 10 or 11.1 lite (I've tried installing both) as it just crashes when I click on a media file to import into the media pool. On starting Resolve, I get the error message that I don't have a CUDA accelerated GPU installed but I do. I've tried both updating and downgrading my CUDA driver and it doesn't help. System specs:

- 2011 Macbook pro sandy bridge 15" 16GB RAM
- OSX 10.8.5
- GPUs: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB, Intel HD Graphics 3000
Under the CUDA section of system preferences is says:
- Cuda driver version: 6.5.18
- GPU driver version: 'no version found'

I've tried switching on and off the 'energy saver' setting that automatically switches between graphics cards too but it didn't help. I have been using Resolve for a year with no issues. Last week I installed Resolve 11 but was able to use it several times and grade a project and output it before this happened. Now it never opens.

I'm currently unable to use my Blackmagic pocket camera to shoot raw as I can't play the files in Resolve. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Energy Saver "Automatic Graphics Switching" MUST be unchecked.

Make sure Resolve Preferences / Video I/O and GPU "GPU processing mode" is set to Auto.

Dwaine! You are the best! You saved my butt. I had been struggling with this issue for days and even tried installing older versions of Resolve and the CUDA drivers. Today, I resorted to installing Resolve 8 on my girlfriend's under spec lap top but it was too slow to handle it. I'm over the moon. My Resolve is up and working again. Thank you so much! I owe you a beer! :D

DaVinci Lite 11.3 shuts down my whole system

PostSun Apr 12, 2015 3:57 am

I recently downloaded the latest version of DaVinci Resolve Lite 11.3, and every time I try to render my videos, my computer shuts down in the middle of the process.
This didn't happen with previous versions. I am running Windows 7 64bit, 16GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro2000 display adapter, I have CUDA installed and updated. This should not be happening.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

That sort of thing is usually power or GPU card related. Since the Quadro 2000 uses so little power, that wouldn't seem to be an issue.

The card does only have 1GB of VRAM, which is less than we recommend, but that would only cause GPU memory error messages from Resolve, and not cause the PC to shut down or reboot.

Try CUDA-Z in the Heavy Load Test Mode (on the Performance tab) and see what happens. If that also causes an issue with the PC, then it would seem related to the GPU card.

For the record, I have the same problem. I just installed DaVinci Lite 11.3.1 and whenevery thumbnail images start to appear in the library, it crashes. I switched the library to detail view and was able to get a step further, but when I load my DCI 4K footage from my PXW-FS7 (XAVC), and make a timeline from footage, DaVinci crashes. It crashed 30 or 40 times in the 45 minutes that I spent with it.

I'm running a GTX680 GPU with 4GB VRAM
Main system has the minimum 8GB RAM and quad core Xtreme CPU running at 4.1 GHz. All media and app drives are SSDs.

I'm a veteran user of Premier Pro, presently at CS6, but the XAVC format is incompatible with Premiere, so I'm looking for an alternative NLE so that I can actually edit the footage I shoot. Resolve Lite looked like it would be a savior, but it's too unstable to be of use. :(

My Davinci Resolve Lite 11 keeps crashing when editing. My Mac will just freeze and then completely restart. before i would get an error message that said "GPU Memory full," but i changed the GPU processing mode from auto to CUDA and i don't get that message anymore but it keeps crashing. What could be the problem?

You don't have enough graphics RAM.

Hi Dwaine,

I can't work out if I've got the requirements to run DaVinci properly. I also have random system shut down issues. Current setup is:

2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB

Thanks very much,
A.

Is that a Mac?

It doesn't meet our recommended minimum graphics VRAM quantity of 2GB for HD work.

That said, it would probably work for some HD work. As long as you don't do anything too GPU VRAM intensive.

Downloaded Davinci Resolve Lite 11.3.2 today from the App store. It worked fine for few hours but now it crashes every time I try to launch my saved project. I then created a new project. Launched that project OK, but when I tried to access the external HD through the library it would crash again.

My computer:

Model Name: MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2010)
OSX Yosemite Version 10.10.5
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
Startup Disk: Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512GB
Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I'd appreciate some help with this. Thanks

That's not a supported system. The GPU is too old and the GPU VRAM is too little.

I just downloaded the Davinci Resolve 12 and it keeps on crashing once I try to upload some videos on to it. I have a windows 10.

I tried following this "Resolve Preferences / Video I/O and GPU "GPU processing mode" is set to Auto." But that last instruction is not available.

Not sure how to solve this issue.
