Cursor problem when re-timing

PostSun Apr 21, 2024 12:03 am

RETIME in timeline is broken.
TRIM is disabled while one of the clips is in the RETIME mode.
YET FOR SOME REASONS you can still TRIM the clip that is in RETIME mode but not others.
It should be the other way around.
90% of the time, i TRIM the clip instead of retiming it.
90% of the time, i dont even realize one of the clips somewhere is in RETIME mode and i cannot TRIM other clips.
I am loosing my mind. I dont understand why Davinci is like that.
Almost every step of the way something is upside down.

I can't duplicate any of this in Studio 19b1 for Windows. Everything is working as expected.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

You said it yourself in the video. ;) It depends on how you grab it. You need to grab the edge at the part above the triangles in order to change the speed of the clip. Otherwise you will just trim/roll. The mouse pointer should make it clear what will happen.

if clip is in re-time mode, it should not be in trim mode as well.
It should be either or.
Otherwise why disabling trim for all other clips ?
This makes no sense.

It should be the opposite.
Disable trim of the clip currently in re-time mode and do not disabled trim for other clips.

This seems like a reverse logic but if you look at davinci, even OK CANCEL buttons are in reverse. Its a linux mentality.

Microsoft windows was successful and still is simply because they follow rules sch as OK is always on the left and CANCEL always on the right.
In linux, its random and so is in Davinci.

In my opinion, just because Windows has design guidelines doesn't mean the opposite is "Linux mentality". That's a false equivalency. Everything can always be made better and more consistent, the question is at what cost and what resources are available to do it.

I happen to like DaVinci Resove for a lot of things but it's also full of flaws, that's just something we have to deal with. If you're somewhat new to Resolve you will no doubt encounter a lot of these but sometimes there's a bit more to it, sometimes there's more thought put into it than one might realize with the first knee-jerk reaction.

And the free training material is really helpful.
BTW, DR came from Linux, but it was way more expensive then ;-)

BTW, you don't need to shout at us all the time, it makes it harder to read. You have options like underline, italic, or bold.

I dont mean to scream, just emphasizing
If i read help documentation and there is an option to disable this behavior, it does not make it any better.
Ill give you an example.
How would exit your car in the event of an emergency ?
Simple, without thinking about it, you pull the door handle and get out
How would you exit Tesla cybetruck in the event of an emergency that caused power outage ?
Simple: You read the owners manual that would tell you about a hidden pull cord at the bottom of the door that will open the door from the INSIDE in the event of a power loss.

Problem is: its an emergency and you dont have time to read owners manual.
And escaping a burning vehicle should be as simple as exiting it normally without giving it any thought.

Video editors in 2024 should be polished by now.
Even Windows Movie Maker from WindowsXP works exactly how you expect it to work.
I understand Davinci complexity is on another level but so is the developers logic.

Don't drive a Tesla without having made yourself familiar with every hidden option ;-)

Don't use software that you didn't study first in an emergency. Use what you know well, and start learning the new one at quieter periods.

If Video Maker is what you know well, that's the best software in 2024 for an emergency.

Don't buy a Tesla! The new Chinese e-Cars are better and cheaper.
Why do you think Tesla is firing so many employees?
Or, maybe, a fighter plane. AFAIK, the all have a very clearly visible eject lever :-)

Oh, and don't use DR, the new Chinese editing software is much better and faster.
But soon to be banned in the US.

In my test, I had no trouble trimming other clips.

Neither do I, Jim. But Tony doesn’t like DR (or Tesla, for that matter).
