Trouble importing media

PostThu Apr 25, 2024 8:36 pm

Hi,

I have an older Sony XDCAM that I use to record videos. The files are recorded in an .MXF format. When I try to import them directly into Da Vinci Resolve 18.6 (free version) they won't play and only appear black in the media bin. I've tried converting them via Shutter Encoder to the DNxHD codec and a number of other codecs, but it still won't work. I've run into a number of videos that Da Vinci Resolve refuses to interact with. Is this a settings issue? I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

Could be a limitation of the Free version. Maybe you need Studio.

If you can share a file, someone with Studio can test it out for you.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Try not to convert, but to rewrap it into .MOV with Shutter Encoder (or simply ffmpeg).
It may be MPEG2.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
