clips unlinked

PostMon May 13, 2024 6:46 pm

Hello there,
me again, with another issue.

I keep my clips on an external hard drive, which I sometimes disconnect. When I reconnect it to the laptop, Davinci Resolve automatically detects the clips, and they are again visible for editing.

Just now I had to do it manually but DVR doesn't seem to find the clips. (see screenshots below - in one, you can see that the files are there, and in the other, you can see that I DVR cannot see them.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help

First thing I’d do is see if your external drive is mounted to the same folder in /Volumes. You can do that from the command line by typing:

mount

It’ll give you a list of where your drives are mounted. You might see an unexpected numeric suffix at the end showing that macOS has attached it at a different folder than it was originally.

If that’s the case then mystery solved. Try ejecting and re attaching it and see if it changes back to the original name. If not I can help you farther. As can Google.

I'd try to fix the problem at the root. Why does it disconnect? Bad cable?
Or are your drives set to go to sleep? Don't, not for video editing software!

The OP said they disconnect the drive intentionally.

Well, then I’d always quit DR first, then disconnect. And reconnect before starting it again.
Wait, there’s a Unmount drive feature in the input area of the Media page.
Try that.

Not sure what the OP did. Just suggesting a means to identify if it’s the OS mount point that’s causing his issue.

I remember that from older versions of DR, but didn't experience it lately.
