Stuttering

PostSun Nov 04, 2012 3:15 pm

I'm running an 8 core Mac Pro with 20GB ram, a GT 120, GTX 570, connected to a 24TB SAS RAID, and at times I'm getting stuttering playback with Resolve V9.0.3, any suggestions?

What is your disk speed? What type of files are working and which sometime stutter? What is your timeline res, source clip res, how many nodes, are these using noise reduction or lots of blur, sharpen etc.

I'm working with a Sony F3, recording to KiPro at 422HQ. Timeline is 1920X1080, source clip res is 1920X1080, one node, no NR, no blur, no sharpening.

I'm working on a different job today, I'll see if the Alexa files play the same. I was wondering that given the fact I installed new video cards this past week, that this is the problem. Prior to this my Quadro 4K, never stuttered, could this be a driver or firmware issue, or is it the beta that I am using. Peter if you can confirm which firmware and drivers I should be using with my setup, I would appreciate it greatly. I can still render out at up to 60FPS, even though playback is 5-9fps.

What Mac Pro do you have?

20GB of RAM doesn't seem like an ideal memory configuration for any of the recent Mac Pros. For 2009/2010 Mac Pros, you use pairs of 3, so 6/12/24GB is optimum.

Try switching on Optimized Video monitoring in the project settings to see if that helps. If that doesn't help, try switching to 8-bit video monitoring and see if that helps.

I've sourced one possible cause. I'm running Ultra Scopes on a second computer, and networking using Screen Sharing. When I have screen sharing on Resolve does not playback real time, with screen sharing off, real time returns.

I'm using both a 2010, and a 2009 Mac Pro. The 2010, is the main unit with Resolve, the 2009 (16GB RAM), runs Ultra Scopes.

Sounds like you should just not use screen sharing.
