GeForce GTX850M problem with DaVinci

PostSun Sep 07, 2014 6:18 pm

DaVinci Resolve 10 (also tried version 11) keeps on crashing while importing files.
HP Envy 15
Windows 8.1 64bit
IntelCore i7 2,0GHz
RAM 12GB DDD3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 4GB

When I was using an iMac I was able to switch between OpenCL and CUDA but can't find how to here in Resolve in Windows.

What nVidia driver are you using?
What type of files are you trying to import?
I'm pretty sure on the PC side if it detects you have CUDA then you don't get the option to switch between CUDA and OpenCL

On Windows, if we see a NVIDIA GPU, we use CUDA. If we see AMD, we use OpenCL.

My guess is your Windows driver is too old so please update to the latest driver which will support CUDA 6.

I have this laptop and having exactly the same problem. I have updated every driver possible, but still says no open cl available. If I do any more updating, It told me it would mess things up with my nvidia card, which I'd rather not do. Was really looking forward to using Resolve, but guess it simply doesn't work? Seeing the same problem all over the Internet with many users.

hmm I was toying with the idea of getting a cheap PC gaming laptop (like Lenovo Y50 $950) to at least be able to run Resolve away from studio.
This has a 2.4 i7 quad/gtx860m 2gb. wonder if it would work?

I would say don't hold your breath. Have read many posts and written some myself on this topic. Still can't seem to get it working. It will run the Adobe suite fine, but it's resolve I really wanted.

I just quickly looked at an hp envy 15 online and it had a 1366 x 768 screen. Is that true of all of them? Doesn't resolve still need 1920x1080? That's why I was looking at Y50. Screen is supposed to suck, but at least full HD...

Mine is the hp envy 17 with full 1080 screen resolution and blueray player. Seems to blast through every other piece of powerful software except resolve. Keyboard is a bit flimsy though, but for the hardware alone it's worth the price.

Well then that's basically a previous gen iMac and should run it fine. Odd.

Did you try adding in the following in to Preferences, advanced in resolve?

LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 1
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1
Local.GPU.Mode = CUDA

As well as using the latest nVidia driver from the nVidia website.

Does the HP laptop use 'Optimus' where it switches between the nVidia GPU and the Intel GPU? If so then that's usually the reason why it has issues as everything goes through the Intel GPU and Resolve will default to that unless you add in the lines above. As the Intel GPU isn't supported by Resolve it then can't find OpenCl and that's why you get the error message.

Also wonder if it has something to do with dual gpu. Intel 4600 integrated and dedicated Gtx 850m. On Macbook you can control how they are used. Windows?

You can tell software which one to use, but Resolve ignores that unless you add in those lines. My laptop has the same issue and without those lines added in I also get the OpneCL error message

I'll try adding those lines again, but it didn't seem to make any difference last time. I'll have another go. Thank you

Glad it worked. I just wish they'd make it into a sticky so it would be easier for people to see how to fix it
