A quick video card question

PostTue Oct 28, 2014 3:55 am

I am a still photographer looking to start in video. I really like the color grading tools in Davinci. I am running an old Core I7 930 system. I know it needs to be updated badly, but that will not happen for a few months. Resolve gives me the video card error on startup because I am running a tiny 512mb ATI 4850 right now. Can I buy a $50 GT 610 to at least make the program function. I want to play with the basics of working on Canon 5d MK2 1080p video. I know it is not ideal..but will it work? Tech specs below.. Thanks for your help...

Microsoft DirectX 12 API (feature level 11_0) Support

You may want to check the reference guide we have for Resolve listed on our support page. Here's the link for you to check out.

Thanks for the response. The guide seems to show "optimal" hardware...mine is anything but.

I did buy an Asus GT 630 SL. It has 384 Cuda Cores. After going to Nvidia website for the latest driver I can run Resolve...not well, but I can bring clips in and play with the color grading tools. I dropped a cross dissolve into a clip and my pc really choked trying to play it back, I got maybe 1 or 2 FPS. I just wanted to let others know you can at least get a feel for the software with a GPU like this. I am looking forward to building a new machine in the next few months and seeing Resolve at its full potential.
