GPU choice for Davinci Resolve

PostSun Jan 11, 2015 7:23 pm

Hello,

I'm upgrading my computer.
I already have 32gb ram and I want to replace some old hardware.

I want to add:

- Asus strix gtx 970 (2x)
- I7 4790k
- Asus maximus VII hero

I want to edit 4k realtime in resolve. Should I go for 2x gtx 970, a single gtx 980 or an older gtx Titan Black?

Greetings.

You want something with 8GB of RAM (per GPU) on the card if possible.
I'm using the R9 8GB card, and it is coping with 4K nicely.

8GB is not necessary, minimum recommended is 4GB, but 6GB per GPU should be ample.

Who recommended 4GB? As far as I know, a test done on this forum revealed you need a minimum of 5.5GB for 4K in Davinci Resolve.

BM recommend a minimum of 4GB,
For processing UHD or 4K-DCI images we
recommend 4GB or more of GPU memory (RAM).
For HD image processing 3GB of GPU RAM is
normally sufficient
also others on the forum have found 4GB works fine for them using 4K footage

I wrote that entry, it applied to there being need only this 6GB onto a VGA memory, and 4K+, and 5K, 6k RED debayer claims the many memories.

The ProRes 4k, and 4k cDNG, works fine 4GB VGA

To those who have the r9 290x 8gb card what fps are you getting with playback in 4k? Using 1 node of temporal noise reduction at 50% and 3 nodes of some curves/color.

I'm trying to figure out if upgrading my 770 4gb is worth it.
