Before I had a GTX 770 and when I created a project 4K UHD and I read from a clip of blackmagic 4K UHD:
Beach Jetty.mov
Beach Sports.mov
City Gallery.mov
City Market Display.mov

= No problem reading. Smooth...
Now, always with the same PC:
Motherboard: Type QuadCore Intel Core i7-3770K processor, 4400 MHz (44 x 100)
Blackmagic RS422 communication port Serial Port (COM3)
Video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti (6GB)
BlackMagic extreme 4K CARD for monitoring.
without effect, just the clip in time line :
When I read the video from the tab "MEDIA": smooth playback, very good
Since the "EDIT" tab: smooth playback, very good
Since the "COLOR" tab and void: No smooth playback.
A review of logs produced by Resolve, I dropped frames: In the "C: \ ProgramData \ Blackmagic Design \ DaVinci Resolve \ Support \ logs \ davinci_resolve.log
