trimming gaps away

PostFri Jul 24, 2015 10:29 pm

i have a very simple question, regarding the edit mode. i think maybe i'm just doing something wrong:

i have to clips with a gap in between. if i now trim either clip to close the gap, i can minimize the gap to a single frame but i can't trim beyond it, closing it.

for this to happen i need eg. to first move one clip to another video track, then trim to the exact full length of the gap, then move it back in place to overwrite the gap...
what am i missing?

thanks for any advice!

You should be able to select the gap, the press the DEL key to make it go away.

thanks for helping!

i can select and delete the gap, yes, but this results in rippeling (the 1-frame-gap gets deleted and everything after it moves).
i do not want to change the position of either of my clips, i only want to extend the borders of one of them to fill the gap in between them...
or, similar situation, as another example: lets say you have three edits and then decide to just stay in the first shot. so you want to trim this first shot over the next two, completely overwriting them... how would that work?

Can you just trim the head/tail until you fill the gap?

You can use the extend edit function:
- press A for the arrow tool.
- place the orange timeline cursor at the new position you want the clip extended to
- click with the mouse on the old edit point, so that it is highlighted green.
- press E to extend the clip

hi!
thanks for all the help but fortunately in resolve 12 they fixed it anyway... at least sort of.
it's a little strange but it seems to work like this:
- when in trimming mode, i cannot trim over gaps.
- in normal "arrow" mode though (pressing "a"), i can: not if i select both sides (then it behaves the same way as in trimming mode). but when only selecting one side - which performs basically a two-sided trim (not changing the timeline length) but overwriting all gaps/other clips/whatever in the way.

sounds incredibly complicated and does not seem a 100 % consistent ui-wise but it does actually work well.
regardless, thanks for all your help!
