FEATURE REQUEST-Full Frame Flags

PostTue Aug 04, 2015 5:04 am

In Avid Symphony I color my master clips to designate what camera they are from. Then in the timeline, each clip is a solid color, and I get a quick visual reference as to what camera a particular clip is from and can apply a saved grade accordingly.

Since using Resolve I have been using flags to designate cameras. It is a bit harder to track these on the Color/Lightbox page as they are small on screen. It would be great to take a cue from Adobe Lightroom and color the entire frame around the clips to give a better visual reference as to how they were flagged.

Here's an image of what it could look like...

I don't think I'd go that far, but I would vote for bigger flags in the thumbnails.

Could make it an option for those who wish to use it.

For multiple flags, use the first assigned flag.

It would also be helpful to have more than 9 colors. Avid has 16 so there's enough to label 16 categories of clips discreetly. Then you could more easily keep it to one color if that's all you need. Between multiple cameras, stock footage, VFX, graphics, etc. I usually go over 9. I find it a bit cumbersome to have to go to double flagging.

You could always still flag a clip with more than one color if your workflow uses flags differently.

And add to that the option to use the full frame color if your workflow needs that.

Flexibility is best.

FYI- I take 20-30 minutes in prep to flag all sources (cameras, stock, VFX, graphics, etc) the same color. It makes navigating the lightbox and timeline really nice. In A-Mode you can see where each camera is in a scene very easily. And in C-Mode you can see the sources grouped together really nicely. It saves me much more than 30 minutes overall.

No sorry. If there are multiple flags I must see all including if they have a note or not.

The way we use those flag is also to communicate between conform artist/assistant and colorists, and those have to be visible.
